Motherboard 8 pin connector
Hello everyone, just bought an MSI Tomohawk MAX motherboard.
It has an 8 pin secondary power connector (CPU_PWR1). If you hold the latch at the top then bottom left, bottom right, and the two upper centre connectors are square, the rest are 'house' shaped.

I have a BeQuiet Purepower L7 530W PSU. That has 2 4 pin connectors marked CPU 1 -P4 and CPU 2 -P8. The CPU 1 -P4 connector looks like it fits the right hand side of the motherboard socket. But the CPU 2 -P8 connector is all houses and no squares.

Is it supposed to be some kind of universal connector where the 'houses' fit the squares? In the PSU datasheet they're both marked as 12V P4 and shown combining into P8.
So basically - will I break anything using these PSU connectors on the motherboard?
Thanks :)
Re: Motherboard 8 pin connector
The motherboard manual should have layout of the socket if you want to compare. It makes sense to me but as you've done I would match them up too.
Re: Motherboard 8 pin connector
They all look like that mate, plug it in, it will be fine.
You will find one of those blocks will only go one way
Re: Motherboard 8 pin connector
Thanks both, I'll connect them up and see what happens!
Re: Motherboard 8 pin connector
Yeah those two may even have a little ridge that kinda holds them together (sort of, it's more of a guide, my fat fingers always find it a bit fiddly)
There is only one orientation that the clip will then latch onto the motherboard connector (plugging the two in as one unit at the same time)
Re: Motherboard 8 pin connector
It's taken a while for an update because the connector was in the very far corner of the mobo so the PSU cable wouldn't reach! Had to buy an extension:

This has the same mismatched connector layout as my PSU and worked fine. No smoke yet :)
Thanks to everyone for your help
Re: Motherboard 8 pin connector
Just doing my build atm and the seasonic connectors look the same as your pic but helpfully label them as " CPU" so no ambiguity sfaik that is what they're for.
