Can anyone find me a reasonably priced PSU?
The boss wants a new PC. I have a spare Corsair CX450M still in the spares box but that feels a little underpowered for a 3950X paired with an RX580. Specially when the CPU will be flat out for hours at a time.
This is a work purchase so single GPU and no overclocks, Amazon would be preferred but currently I'm struggling to find anything as everyone seems out of stock.
Was hoping for something like a 650W semi modular unit (as I won't be using SATA or molex drive cables) around the £70 mark rather than the only things I can find would cost as much or more than the X570 motherboard.

Probably a bit OTT,and I suspect lacks a large quantity of certain power connectors.
If you want a Gold or Platinum rated semi-modular PSU which is not a mining PSU,I would say you will need to budget closer to £85~£100.

Currys have some stock and okay prices. I didn't realise they stocked super flower (or how expensive they were!).
There seems to be plenty of kolink PSUs about. Their enclaves are meant ot be very good but the budget stuff gets very cheap.....
There is a corsair t550xm gold for £65. Might be worth investigating but there has been a recal on a model from corsair.

Given the overall budget I'm sure we can wear £85, just when you see what looks like a reasonable PSU and then see the £150 price tag I rather wince.
Hadn't even considered a mining PSU, but 1300W seems bonkers!

Ta. Well aware of the Corsair recall :( The unit in my Wife\'s PC has a batch number just before the recall despite being quite recently fitted, so must have been in a warehouse for years. Also used one at work, next time I\'m at the office I need to check that one.

I was going to recommend a be quiet! Straight Power 11 but I can\'t find any in stock anywhere!
If you\'re gonna be running this flat out for long periods of time, and probably left on overnight because office workers seemingly cannot bear to wait the minute and a half for a PC to boot up in the morning, it\'s probably worth investing into a Gold or Plat PSU.

Platinum and Gold rated fully modular too! But you would need to check low load efficiency though!

Be quiet PSUs have a very short warranty for premium PSUs, only 5 years

Been looking myself, as a friend's Super Flower 1200 just went pop. Almost all the decent options are way overpriced and/or out of stock.

Do you need modular or have you got space in the case to just zip tie the extra cables out of the way? I picked up the Seasonic Core Gold GC 650 650W 80+ Gold PSU/Power Supply from Scan (of all places, I know) as my PSU chamber was a bit short for modular.

Never mind that, this is a 'digital' PSU - or rather a PSU with a digital output - so like the Corsair i suffix ones it comes with a USB output to read 'stuff'. Found a review on here on Hexus:

Some mates bought the NZXT Hale90 550w PSUs years ago when they were £40,which was cheap for a Gold rated PSU. They were made by Superflower and built like a tank and after over 6 years of usage still seem OK.

Think some of the more expensive Corsair i-series might be able to tell a bit more. So yes, if using this to do hardware reviews, it's not going to be possible to get the same details as hardware.fr used to get on GPU loads, or those more recent ones going on about power spikes on, I think, Tom's.

Could live with cables tied back, but when storage is an NVMe drive and no optical drive then most cabling on a PSU is pointless so just not bothering with those cables is rather nice.

The graphs look rather natty, but I'm guessing on a Linux box would require spinning up a Windows VM to run the app. Though he would have spare cores and ram for that :)

Edit: ... aaand the NZXT is out of stock. Think we found a similar one without the graphs.

Well cheers for the heads up there, the second attempt at purchasing an NZXT went out of stock when hitting the buy button as well.

A Superflower 850W unit was eventually ordered from PC World. I wouldn't have thought to look on there, so thanks to Domestic Ginger.
