Help for my son with new PSU for hungry GPU.
My son is fitting a new GPU to his PC for gaming pruposes. He currently has a 500 watt psu.
AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz Quad-Core. Mobo says HT3.0 AM3. SSD, no HDD, 8gb RAM
Planning to fit an AMD RX550. The blurb says it takes 400 watts, so would he need a 650, 750, 850 watt ???
Ta.
Re: Help for my son with new PSU for hungry GPU.
A decent 400W would be more than enough!! Even a 300W PSU probably. I ran a Ryzen 5 2600 and a GTX1080 fine off a 450W PSU for years.

Blurb would likely mean 400W PSU recommended as a minimum - no way will a RX550 consume that much power.

Think @Spreadie is correct.
According to the internet, board rating is 50W and torture testing only goes up to 47W: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews...b,5034-10.html
Re: Help for my son with new PSU for hungry GPU.
The 500W he has will be more than enough power for that build, do you happen to know the model of the PSU; a decent brand that can hold stable voltage on all rails is important too.
