Are AeroCool PSUs as bad as people make them out to be?

Hi, I have recently received a PC with an AeroCool PSU and was looking to upgrade the GPU (Currently running a GTX 1060 6GB which requires one 6+2pin) however am looking to upgrade to a more powerful therefore power hungry GPU. The PSU itself is "700W" however from its weight doesn't feel to be that of a 700W unit so I am thinking to upgrade it.

Just would like to ask before hand if anyone has had bad experiences with AeroCool PSUs before and what was people's opinions about them as I wouldn't like to pass the PSU onto new PC knowing its not very safe.

    Cheers

PSU's can well be overlooked, you really should look to get a good quality unit even if its a lot more than a cheaper PSU. I have had an aerocool fail in the past and also one that has been ok but I wouldn't run a expensive GPU on it. And I would take the peak power numbers with a pinch of salt.

Get yourself a decent PSU and it will last years

AFAIK,some are OK,others not so much. However, there have been lots of deals on PSUs from Corsair, etc - it makes me wonder whether the GPU stock problems have lead to a glut of PSUs at retail?!

Thank you for the response, I was looking at EVGA SuperNova PSU which is 750W and I believe can actually supply 750W consistently. I am thinking to also go fully modular as currently this AeroCool PSU is non-modular so has a tone of extra cables taking up room in my HDD bay so hopefully I can relieve some room in my case.

    Cheers

I had the Supernova G2 previously and was an excellent PSU.

The G2 OEM is SuperFlower, so no surprise.

To the OP: with EVGA it is important to state the whole model number as they keep swapping OEM all the time.

For the Supernova 750W the OEM could be FSP, Superflower or HEC according the Realhardtechx database:
    http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_a...s/Page2293.htm
(Seems EVGA never bought any 750W from Seasonic, if they had it would be the 750 GS or similar).

Superflower or Seadonic are very good, FSP or HEC far less so.

Hi, I was looking at the EVGA SuperNova G3 as it seems to be very good quality and a more compact unit itself, which is perfect for my case.

Indeed it is Superflower, I was aware of that before I bought it. I always like to check out Jonny Guru before buying psu's however their site has been down for a very long time now and not sure if its coming back :/

G3 is Superflower so should be a very good supply. 150mm depth is handy too.
That PSU database entry only lists a JohnnyGuru review, but like Jonj1611 points out that site is down most likely never to return
    Here's a different review:

Ordered one a few days ago and have it running happily in my PC now, next step is the GPU if I can get a hold of one
