With so many of our favourite celebs being gay, (list is too long) are we as a nation camp?

just watched a program about top 10 camp icons, the fact that we have 10 at all is an indicator. How many camp people on american TV? A big fat zero thats how many!

i voted yes, but i dont mean the UK is totally camp, i think a large section of the UK is open minded to gay and or bi sexual people, and it is becoming more socially accepted among the population.
I personally dont see it as a problem, nore does it bother me in anyway, i think americans tend to be more closed minded about the gay/bi population and tend to just ignore it, which is proberly why USA has less gay/bi people on TV and other such places.
America is a hugely homophobic country that's why.
It's becoming more and more accepted in this country, and nowadays more and more TV programs/dramas/soaps, etc, are including gay people to be "politically correct".

One thing that really buys me is people thinking camp automatically equals gay and gay automatically equals camp - were the Carry On films simply homoseuxal propaganda? It's something a couple of friends who happen to be gay have commented on and they reckon it's promoting homophobia: some people dislike Graham Norton and Dale Winton for their presenting style and then take that style as being the normal behaviour for homosexuals and attack them for it. There have been some good shows that portray gay characters as normal people, just homosexual and nothing else different about them, but given that comedy always uses the camp/gay stereotype it's not difficult to see why many people have the misconceptions they do.
Hasn't mr Norton just signed some huge contract over there to do exactly what he does on our telly, on their tellies...? (Be Camp)Originally posted by spazman
How many camp people on american TV?
America the home to sitcoms such as Will and Grace and programs like A Queer Eye for the straight guy? It's taking over the States.
i personally dont know enough about the states, but i think alot of the states are very homophobic, although not all of them, but thats just what iv heard/been told, i dont know for fact.
I hardly think that 10 camp people out of a pool of thousands of celebrities is any sort of indicator at all.Originally posted by spazman

No camp people on US TV? The biggest show there at the moment is camp home-improvement!

Some one enligten me on what you mean buy "camp"??
We're camper than most countries simply because we like that sort of humour I reckon. And it's true that camp does not equal gay- I get accused of being camp all the time, by my wife mainly.
Rich :¬)
now iam really confused... what does it mean?
Is Britain Camp?
Now there's a loaded question. I'd say it is part of the British humour, yes, whether or not campness within entertainment is offensive to Gays I'm not really sure but I'd say probably not, overall.
At another US-based Forum, a poll entitled 'Is homosexuality acceptable to you?' drew the following results:
OK for two women: 4
OK for two men: 0
OK for all:32
No way: 24
Make of that what you will, but it's worth bearing in mind that about 20% of that Forum are UK and we have a scattering of Australians, Norwegians, Belgians & others.
I have a feeling a similar poll, were it conducted here, would garner different results.
Funny that.....lots of people wonder about me tooOriginally posted by Rave
