Re: German Airport scanner Protest (Video Pos NSFW)

This reminds me of a scene in Airplane or Airplane 2 where there was a full body scanner and the security only switched it on when pretty women were passing them!!

Re: German Airport scanner Protest (Video Pos NSFW)

The scanners in their current state has serious ramifications concerning privacy issues, which we are not taking too seriously.

Questions do you want someone looking at you naked, do we accept that it's okay for some officials to be looking at Childrens naked bodies? What type of person would do a job like this?

Who is responsible for policing it and what guarantees do we have that the information is not stored or wont find it's way into the public domain without your consent.

Although the German protest is a bit ott there are serious questions to be answered.

Re: German Airport scanner Protest (Video Pos NSFW)

My take is, better be seen naked and even risk images leaking into public domains than risking being blown up in the sky. Doctors do get to see our naked body (including those of children) and I do not hear any outrage (even though some have abused their positions). If the machine only has RAM memory rather than a permanent storage and no mean of transferring data to external storage, it would also limit the chances of that (an official who taking pictures with a DSLR shouldn't be too difficult to spot).

Re: German Airport scanner Protest (Video Pos NSFW)

What about just having the people who view the screens in a closed off room so they cant identify whos face is whos body? I see this as a better way of doing it then a full body pat down & if it speeds things up at the same time as making everything safer, ftw if you ask me!

That being said, i have been going to the gym a lot lately & not one person has noticed....maybe this is my opportunity?

Some guy had something to say about giving up freedom for security. But it was a long time ago, so who cares?

lol I think trotting out the old 'paedo paedo!' tactic is rather ridiculous. Have you seen the images that these produce? They are barely recognisable as a human.

Re: German Airport scanner Protest (Video Pos NSFW)

It can be viewed as slightly invasive, I know. However, we have to seriously think about the reasons for this. They haven't installed the scanners so they can sell the photos to travellers for €15 once they get through the gate, with cheesy captions such as 'My mum went to Berlin, and all I got was this lousy photo..' and 'I got naked in Germany!'.

They've been installed for security and protection. It is up to the HR Department of Tegel Airport to employ people who won't violate the scanners. And really, at the end of the day, it's just an outline of someone's body. I'm all for it!

Re: German Airport scanner Protest (Video Pos NSFW)

That's all very well for you lot, but I have a willy like an anaconda and naked pictures of it raising its head could pose a security threat on their own.

However, I don't personally have a problem. I do know women who will not be happy though.

I travel a lot and I don't really worry too much about the odd exploding loony, tbh I think sniffer dogs are a better solution as they also pick up on the scent of fear (true) which works as a kind of profiling mechanism. Of course the Underpants Bomber of recent fame had been given tranquillisers to stop precisely that.

In my opinion though, it's still far too easy to get a bomb onto a plane without stuffing it into your knickers. You are mainly smart technical guys, how hard do you think you would find it to get 500gm of C5, a detonator and a 9v battery onto a plane?

This looks like an exercise in futility to me.

I dread to think what would have happened to those protesters in this country. However, I fully support them, in whichever areas necessary.

Doctors yes, the ones who can take an oath, go through years of medical school and are far more qualified than a security guard who went through a months worth of training and a quick criminal record check to get their license.

Regardless if it is stored temporarily stored on RAM or not, I would not want a man or woman who I do not know to be looking at my 5 year old daughter (If I had a daughter).

Re: German Airport scanner Protest (Video Pos NSFW)

For me this has nothing to do with what they can see of my body. It's the fact that's it another invasive security measure that improves security by reacting to something that has already happened. Not to mention the cynic in me wondering how big a score the latest attempted terrorist attack is for the manufacturers of these scanners.

The simple fact remains, flying is incredibly safe. The deaths from plane accidents each year is several orders of magnitude less than deaths by car, and the deaths from terrorist attacks on planes is orders of magnitude less than that. Yet somehow people still get hysterical about terrorism and planes and seem to think it's OK to give away our liberties.

My biggest concern about flying now, is that if I fly, I acknowledge that I agree with the security measures (after all, I don't have much choice about whether or not I get scanned now, do I?). So I'm now less likely to fly, not thanks to terrorism, but thanks to ridiculous security.
