I went to a civil ceremony wedding of a couple of friends earlier on this year; it wasn't a registry office - it was Adlington Hall in Macclesfield, and she came down the aisle to "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica and The San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
I didn't even realise that you couldn't have religious music. I used to sing in my local church choir and we were occasionally booked for weddings- it was a nice (£2.50) bit of extra pocket money for a couple of hours on a Saturday afternoon.
I got used to 'Here comes the Bride' (cannot for the life of me remember the proper name) played on the way in, and Mendelssohn's Wedding March played on the way out- so for my own wedding that was all I (we) wanted. The only disappointment was that the Wedding March got played on a crapy ghetto blaster, rather than being blasted out on a proper pipe organ- played loud it's a truly jubilant piece of music; played a bit distorted on a £20 Bush it's a bit of a let down, and completely failed to live up to my jubilant 'just got married' mood.
But hey. It sounds a bit arrogant to say that my own wedding was the best one I've ever been to. But it was.
I can't recall the music Carl had at his.
Saying that we we're all too busy laughing at the fact she called him Carol.

When I got married earlier in the year I had a meeting around 2 weeks before the big day to discuss arrangements such as music
I got married around 16 months ago in a registry office. Two close friends, no family and it only cost me £80.
Call me a cheapskate, but it's the best £80 I've ever spent.

You typical Boltoner .... lol only kidding
If I were ever to get married, I'd probably go down the same route as I'm not reglious at the slightest so that makes a "church" wedding out of the question as I'd class that has highly hypocritical.
Saying that... there's always Old Trafford
I got married in Las Vegas, last year, so we had the choice of religious or non-religious and whatever music we wanted, we opted for Gorecki by Lamb.
Best decision ever made to get married there, got everything we wanted exactly how we asked for it, just us - NO-ONE else, and the whole thing cost less than a photographer for a wedding in this country.
It's daft stuff like the things mentioned in this thread that got us to go elsewhere.

Just because it's "holy" music about god, doesn't mean that a total aethist with a good ear can't tell that it's a superb piece of orchestration/musicianship.
It's a silly rule, born out of the politically correct, idiotic way today's government seems to be operating. In their view, if you play Bach's Magnificat (fine, fine piece) in a registry office, and you've invited someone who is jewish or muslim or any other faith other than christian, then they MIGHT be offended by it and sue the registrar for being uncomfortably exposed to music from outside their faith. Utterly utterly ridiculous.
In fact, until I did some digging around, they told me I had to get a PRS licence if I wanted to play ANY music at all from my own collection - which is ballcocks as the premises is licenced in it's own right, regardless of who's in it. So I ignored that bit of "advice" and actually played a CD I'd burned myself. No-one batted an eyelid.
