Would volcano insurance not come under an act of god?
In this case everyone suffers I don't see why the insurance should cover the whole cost, since technically it is not included in the premium paid. Although it is harsh not to at least give some payout.
Personal (moral) opinion: insurance payout perhaps 25%.
Personal (financial) opinion: no payout (AVIVA 12:30PM : 378.50p Down 8.50p (2.20%))
I suspect that even if the insurance policy excludes such natural disasters, the regulators will find a way to bend around that.
Back to topic. If the last time it erupted is before you're even born, the chance of it striking (short-term aside) again in your lifetime is almost nil. So there is really no point in insuring it.

Stupid - not my place to say. The UK isn't the only country on earth though.
It has been raised before, many times that's why there are VAACs around the globe.
