    Another American gets beheaded.

Whats that ? Three now ?

What do they expect to achieve with this ?

I'm not sure if they even have a political / strategic aim with this. I suspect that they hate America so much that they see killing Americans as an aim in itself.

How many more will be killed like this ? What will American do if this continues ?

The Saudis threatened their own reprisals against the terrorists so let's see what happens there. As for the Americans. My own thoughts are that they will take so much and then pressure at home will force their government to take some kind of direct retaliatory action.

They are already achieving things. Western contractors are leaving Saudi and they don't have the specialised skills that these contractors have. Hence the public threat to the terrorists by Prince Abdullah on Saudi TV. The terrorists are putting direct pressure on the kingdoms rulers and forcing the 'hated westerners' out. The OPEC conmen then put the price of oil up and that directly affects our economies.

Thinking about how this affects Bush, it will probably go one of two ways.

He will be supported for taking action to stop them...

    or

He will be criticised for invading Iraq and "starting it all."

Of course they want you to retreat from the world, you fool! You think they wanted you to invade the middle east in the first place?

What really annoys me is the way Bush always tries to make political capital out of everything that happens.
Whenever an American gets killed it is always the same line "they are attacting us because they know our course is the correct one yadayadayada"
The one which really wound me up was turning his reelection site into a gigantic Ronald Reagan tribute with multiple parallels between the two leaders.

Just some thoughts on abstract military tactics.

Killing random americans isn't going to achieve anything. As a strategy to gain control of your country it is just plain idiotic. But it is more a publicity stunt to get the name of their group known and feared by the locals. Though this also *might* lengthen the stay of allied troops !@!@!

If they want the americans out of Iraq... here is a thought. Put down your swords and Ak's and WAIT for the new government to take control. I am sure it will be far easier to attempt a coup of the incoming regime ...

I know there is a long history for these groups, but at some point someone has to just FORGET something or you are stuck in attrition for ever.

Its stupid, they want american out, fair enough.

But by acting in this way they ensure that the Americans stay longer.

They are simply killing for killings sake.

Pull out, let them take over, they will screw up so bad that the locals will rebel and wipe them out for us either that or they will be out in the open where we can get them anyway

    A bit too simplistic?

Killing for killings sake eh? Its nice to know America et al maintains a sense of killing (innocents) for the right reasons in random bombings while the terrorists are crazy for killing soldiers.. Not in my book.

War isnt exactly pretty, shooting a man in the face is very similar to beheading him. Desperatly using that as leverage to stop an invading force seems pretty reasonable. NOT right , but a reasonable response to what is happening.

    Read similar for suicide bombings..

Here, here, it's not like the Iraqis invaded a sovereign nation or anything, they have legal support at least unlike the invaders.
