    Re: The Abortion Thread

Both me and my wife are `pro life` but we had a terrible situation recently - we have children and wanted no more , but , we had an accident (the injection obviously isnt 100%) , and my wife is on warfarin - and we found out sshe was pregnant.

at 8 weeks the first scan was made , and allready they said there were signs of serious problems (for those who dont know , taking warfain from weeks 6 to 9 gives the biggest risk for a baby possible) - given the details we were given , it was the sadest moment of our lives to make the choice to end it

but nature interviend and my wife miscarried last week before any planned termination. It wasnt to be.

hardest thing we`ve both going through

HJ - can't imagine what that must have been like - I hope you guys can move forward knowing that nature took it's course.

Guys - you seem to be going round in circles. I don't think there will be an end to this discussion, ever.

Don't forget that these consequences can be both positive and negative dependent on the situation.

As HJack has alluded to, these things are sometimes out of our hands and a VERY personal decision, let's not trivialise it by trying to come to one conclusion.

I'll close the thread unless anyone else has anything new to say.

    Re: The Abortion Thread

neither of us are young , and we have teenagers allready so it was sure a surprise , but i must say our own GP did say she honestly though the damage was allready done (my wife was taken off warafarin and onto clexane) by the time we discovered what was going on.

given my wife is on warfarin , the only option for a termination was surgical , and we were bluntly told the risks with that as well - so in 1 way , the lowest ` risk` , that of mother nature , is making it easier - but there are complications even now ; and more scan`s next week.

Termination , whether by the pills or surgical is not to be taken lightly , as the moment a woman is pregnant the body starts to gear up for it (and quickly).

    but

whilst a termination is a choice - , especially in my own situation , there was sadly a clear medical reason as to why it wouldnt be a good idea to continue - i must stress though , all of the medical staff were open about all options , and did say whilst my wife would have been well looked after if we chose to carry on with the pregnancy (and i quote ` so bloody high risk she would nearly have to live here in hospital) , a termination was close to that level as well.; but as i said , mother nature made the choice for us , and helping my wife on that saturday took both of our strength (and in a way still is)

there should be the option for a termination , espeically where the life of the mother-to-be is in danger. and that was the choice we made, 1 more baby , or the other children lose there mother.

    Re: The Abortion Thread

Related question, extremely relevant in the US with all the Republican efforts to ban it: hormonal contraception. It works by preventing implantation of embryos - i.e. a life is made via fertilization, but dies because it can't get the required home in the womb.

If you're against abortion, are you equally against hormonal contraception? If life begins at conception, then every failed implantation is a lost life.

    Re: The Abortion Thread

    I closed it.

It had already been noted by one poster that the whole thing was simply going round in circles. The same question had been asked and answered in several ways and no-one was getting anywhere with it. I felt that it had run it's course, and closed it before it had the chance to get out of hand.
    Cheers, David
