    Unhappy Green IT...when?

Just read this interesting article on impact of IT on our environment.

    http://comment.zdnet.co.uk/andrewdon...9157117,00.htm

After reading it definitely got me thinking about the impact technology has on our world.

At the moment the stuff is all shipped off to India afaik and there is a pretty environmentally unfriendly place there where they recover the gold from old main frames etc, nasty stuff.

Bloody hell, does everyone send their filth to india? Don't they dismantle those huge oil tankers for 50p wage per day as well? What else do the poor indians have to dispose of?

Seems that our crap from the West is just dumped there, I read an article about it recently and it is horrific what is being done with mounds of technojunk there just to gain back a few grams of precious metals in some cases.

Here would be one of the reasons

    Here's another article on it.

Is terrible and WE should be doing something about it as industry people and serial upgraders.

Thing is, its not very easy to dispose of old kit is it? where exactly do you take it? I have a 17" monitor that is dead, but I have nowhere to take it except the local tip where they will probably just bury it...

Ai well thing is that even if you take it to a company that claims to be disposing of it correctly taht it will still end up in India.
