At the moment the stuff is all shipped off to India afaik and there is a pretty environmentally unfriendly place there where they recover the gold from old main frames etc, nasty stuff.

Bloody hell, does everyone send their filth to india? Don't they dismantle those huge oil tankers for 50p wage per day as well? What else do the poor indians have to dispose of?

Thing is, its not very easy to dispose of old kit is it? where exactly do you take it? I have a 17" monitor that is dead, but I have nowhere to take it except the local tip where they will probably just bury it...
