    BBC goes on strike

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertain...io/4538929.stm

Pretty funny to see them reporting on their own strike action.

More seriously though, I think anyone who actually cares about the great institution that is the BBC can't fail to be behind this industrial action. The BBC is still at the worldwide forefront of broadcasting technology and quality, privatising half of it and cutting back the rest simply cannot be in the interests of the UK population.

From my limited experience private contractors to the BBC basically have a licence to print money - i can't see any major cost savings here.

I couldn't agree more. The BBC remains one of the institutions the UK can be thoroughly proud of and while in some areas it is undoubtedly in need of modernisation, cuts of this scale and part privatisation seem to be extremely poor ways of going about it.

I have to say thats one of the reasons the BBC is so good... their reporting tends to be impartial and unbiased even when it involves themselves.

Quickly, sound the alarms, and fetch me my tinfoil hat! Oh, no, wait, I'm not 14. No-one is saying that the BBC is never biased, we're saying that on the whole, it's less biased than any other news source we have, and, as non-morons, we can usually detect even the most subtle bias and still glean useful information from a source. In the case of the strike itself, that's a pretty damn objective article.

Oh, and for the record: unbiased, interpretation and biased are the words you seek.

Otherwise: quality post, thank you for your contribution.

I think that you need to take your rose tinted glasses off mate. The BBC is one of the most systematically biased sources of news that we have got. Yes they try to remain impartial and all that, but considering the whole building leans to the left it's not surprising that some of it creeps through.

A friend of mine used to work in the world service and he said it was like going back in time, full of people that still believed in state ownership of industry, redistribution of wealth and other such drivel

That wasn't the point being made. The point being made is that the BBC is not 'unbiased' as has been claimed....
