    Giving 'em enough rope

Posted on the 'World of Stuart' website forum:

A BBC interview with a representative of the BNP.

I'd advise not reading past the first post - you don't want to spoil the 'classic' quotes.

Incredible, I always held them a little in contempt but thats pretty funny.

I had a read through the website as well, kept me amused for at least 10 mins.

Thing is a large number of people (roughly 50%) in recent polls agreed with their policies. When they were told they were BNP only about 10%, in fact I think it was less, changed their view.

I'd like to see this survey - do you have a link to the data?

Was on the sky news website a few days ago....I'll see what I can find....The figures were around 46-49% if memory serves me correctly. Which is either e reflection on teh way the public are beginnin gto think or a reflection on the failure of immigration policy by the govt. Either way it's a disturbing trend.

Hopefully it's just a case of the survey company selecting a few of the BNP's more obvious policies rather than the ones they try to keep quiet. Or maybe it's like "The BNP are against members of the public being kicked hard in the testicles at random - do you agree with the BNP?"

http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0...520516,00.html It was a youGov poll

Here's another poll that was on the website though.

BNP: Do they have a place in British politics?
    Yes

    72.16% (64,964 votes)
    No

    27.83% (25,061 votes)

    Total: 90,025

    Expires: 02 May 2006
Look at the total number of votes polled. Over 90 000. I would say that would probably cover quite a wide spectrum of people. Worrying?

What is worrying is that if they got a bit sensible and worked on their image they could well become contenders in the future.

Whilst I loathe the BNP, I would answer yes to that question. the less than 30% are too narrow minded to understand politics it seems.

To be fair I'd say those figures quite possibly represent the way people feel about the failure of the immigration policy and the way that it is perceived to have failed. The current fiasco over the freed prisoners who should have been considered for deportation is one example that just happens to be current. Whether they would have been deported or not ultimately is not important. The process should have been carried out to determine that.

As long as one remembers the underlying ethos of the BNP. Yes they have a place. As does any group that wants a voice under the law in a democracy. It's up to individuals if they actually vote for them. Equally it's the responsibility of the party, any party, to operate within the law or face the consequences.

The worrying thing is that if they manage to appear acceptable to the less radical general public then their power grows. IRA and Hamas know that to get real power you have to become part of the political process. They wouldn't be the first bunch of right wing nationalists with a dodgy racial strategy to get into power in Europe. It just takes the right set of circumstances.
