Why didn't you review the PC version - I imagine thats the one most readers will be buying?
Picked it up this morning(PC), thought I was going to have to wait til payday, yay for the phonebill being smaller than I thought. :D
Only played a few hours; so not a whole lot to say, but so far;
If Fallout 3 left you wanting more, well here it is. I was quite shocked how little had changed, but also how little that bothered me. Despite it's quirks I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas was like falling back into a comfy old chair. Felt right at home, right away. Yes the cushions are a little tatty nowadays, but honestly I think the criticism of the graphics has been overly harsh, it might be an old engine, but it is a pretty one, it might not be best any more, but it certainly doesn't take anything away from the gameplay and it doesn't look or feel 'old', even with the aforementioned quirks(which are still present) and with it being a slightly older engine you can crank up the eye candy without needing to re-mortgage your house for a GPU.
The major additions are well chosen and executed, they almost feel like fan service, well for this fan anyway. If you'd asked me what I wanted added to Fallout 3. I would have said; a scope for my AK, proper sights, more granularity in karma system and better control over companions. So, spot on. The core gameplay is perfectly intact and just as engrossing as it was 2 years ago without feeling like you're just retreading old ground.
No major bugs or glitches yet, although there is a patch out already and I'm assured they're in there somewhere, I've not come across any.
So far I'm loving it and I suspect every other Fallout fan will too. Now does anyone know where I can buy that scope?
it is almost the same as Fallout 3 don't you think?
I really need to get back into Fallout 3. When I bought mine, the Game of the Year edition came out soon after for the same price with all the addons, so I never got into it for long enough. Also at the time I bought it I was very much dissappointed with the graphics and engine. I know I need to ignore those facts plus now I have a better PC to run it on. A 6800 was struggling at the time I got it.
Patiently awaiting the 'F3-NV GotYE'. Perhaps a festive season release?
The 'F3 GotYE' was excellent.
:)
i played through a bit of fallout new vegas and i really liked the way they put moral decisions into the game and the story line really pulled me in :)
Fallout 3 was the first Fallout game I played. I've really enjoyed playing both of them, they seem to be a bit different to anything else and the story line really drew me in.
Also awaiting the GotYE ... patiently.
I was wondering what F3-NV veterans think of the 'hardcore' mode?
Not got round to that yet, I sort of stalled on my first play though and didn't finish it.
I don't know why but there's just something that doesn't quite grip me in the same way as FO3 did.
Still a good game just didn't quite suck me in, I think the main story in FO3 being that little more ridged and linear, while you can still just wonder off and do other things 90% of the time, makes it that bit stronger.
Also if you just kept to the main story line in FO3 you only see about 1/3 of the world map, which made a lot wandering off to explore feel more like exploring, where as in FO:NV the story sends you to far more of the map and all the exploring you do is just to the side of the main path as it where.
Also might be that the FO:NV map is more densely packed with locations, it might work that bit better if the map was twice the size but with the same number of locations.
I bought Fallout: NV and all the expansions from Steam a couple of weeks ago... Cost me around £11 in total and i've not even played it yet! (Another impulse buy ). I really enjoyed Fallout 3 and the previous Falloout games (the second one is my favourite so far).
I love Fallout New Vegas I've visited every location collected all the unique weapons and done all the side quests.
I've got all the DLC's and I think my overall playing time is over 95 hours It's just a pity about how much it glitches on the PS3, I think its because how complicated my save has got but in some places its just unbearable to play its like 1 FPS
I Can't wait until I get my computer after Christmas its going to be the first game I buy on steam
EPIC GAME Cant wait until Fallout 4 :D
I didn't like hardcore mode mostly because used to carry all of my ammo and that alone used to put my overweight especially if you used missiles they used to weigh about 5 each.
Plus your too busy worrying about sleep, H2O and food to get into the story
love fallout 3 and the new vegas really great game
