    BeQuiet! 450w PSU

This is my first review so it will likely end up being a review about something different other than the BeQuiet PSU, and I will probably mention poop at least once. You have my apologies in advance.

I recently finished building my first rig in over 4 years and have decided to embark on a review writing mission on all the parts used, starting with the PSU, which is short for Power Supply Unit. Clever, did you see what they did there. They made POWER into 3 words, I guess P would have been too confusing. "Erm Hi, I signed up cos I need a P..."... the outrage!

As it was intended to fit into my BitFenix Prodigy case, my PSU of choice was the BeQuiet! 450w - £38.94 in the sale from Scan since it was 150mm deep, leaving much needed space at the rear of the PSU cage for cable management.

    Specs:
    80+ Bronze (87% efficiancy)
Super Silent (Confirmed. More on this in a moment)
    20+4pin Mobo
    4 Sata adapters
    6+2 PCI-e adapter
Other regular adapters for CPU & Optical drives.

The unit came unboxed from Scan and included the power cord. This was disapointing as I rather like boxes. Must be some repressed childhood memory from some long distant christmas or something.

There were no screws etc but the case had already provided some nice black ones already so no big issue. It installed nicely, the cables being just long enough to keep tidy inside the case, roughly 20cm long per cable bunch.

After turning on the PC with it installed I decided to see just how quiet it was so I turned off the TV. Nothing. I checked the power led to make sure the pc was on and it was. Just silently. Very silently.

Not wanting to give it up just yet, I sent my other half upstairs with our babbling baby, took the batteries out of the clock, and even turned off the fridge. Still silence.

Now you might think this is a good thing but you couldnt be more mistaken. I used to rely on the noise as a sign that the PC was on.. 3 times now I have discovered my PC monitor on standby and pressed the pc power button, inadvertently turning the machine OFF. Long gone are the days I have to listen to the equivalent pc version of a sonic jet taking off...

If however you were a stealth ninja who wanted to take their pc on a stealth job (obviosuly to play assassins creed 3 during your break time), then this silence would be golden so you didnt scare the crap out of anyone before you wanted too. That could be messy!

So to summarise, the BeQuiet! 450w PSU is a nice bit of kit.

    Thanks for reading!

I've just bought a Be Quiet PSU and (not) hearing about the noise level is silence to my ears...
