    Want a new build BUT...

    Hi,
    I currently have
    C2D E6600 2.4Ghz, rarely overclocked to 3, 3.2, 3.4(but cant get it stabilized)
    Gigabyte P35-DS3R
    4GB DDR2 800 Corsair value
    Zebronics 8800GT 512MB Stock
    160Gb+250Gb HDD
    Zebronics 500 W
    Asus Xonar D2
    Logitech G25

I am confused to go completly for a new build or buy a C2Quad and GTX560Ti and nice PSU.

I play games on a 1080p res screen and some blueray movies.
What you guys suggest ? Is it good to go for a new build or buy the quad and a GTX 560Ti ?

    Thanks
    Denny

New build -the modern processors are so much better than the old C2quads.

Thanks for the reply. Actually I have money only to buy a second hand quad and a new 560 Ti. If I go for a new build, I should consider scans buy now pay later. Can you comment on the scan's service ?

Re: Want a new build BUT...

Well if money is tight, you'd probably be best off with a gtx560 (non-ti) or 6870 which are cheaper and still pretty good and a c2q and a new psu
Zebtronics isn't a good name for psu's if I remember correctly and if this it the psu you mean http://www.zebronics.net/m500w_platinum_powersupply.asp then only "22a" on the 12v for a "500w" shows this is an old design, at best.
(personally I'd not trust those numbers, probably short burst max at low ambient temperatures and it's only a 350w sustained psu)

get yourself something half decent like this http://www.scan.co.uk/products/530w-...et-fan-atx-v23 which is dual 12v rail, 22a on each
    or http://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-...iet-fan-atx-v2 single 12v rail 34a
or one of the nice XFX ones (made by seasonic) http://www.scan.co.uk/products/450w-...ssfire-fan-atx it's 34a on a single 12v rail and would be fine for your pc even with a C2Q and gtx560ti

Thanks for your inputs. Actually I have only funds of 200 pounds. If I want to go for a new build I would go for buy now pay later from scan. I just did a quick list without LCD. Already have a 1080p Viewsonic vx2260wm. Is it wise to keep or change ?

Confusion in deciding Mobo, GFX and PSU. Comments Please.

Thanks. I am also more inclined to gigabyte. But many saying that MSI card is better than the gigabyte one.

Re: Want a new build BUT...

AMD Bulldozer is being released next month and there might be some noise about the HD7000 series too.

I would probably get the PSU first and wait a few more weeks. It means you save up more money too.

Also,do you really need an SLI or Crossfire capable motherboard??

This Antec 650W PSU is semi-modular and Scan has had it on offer for under £60 recently:

Thanks. I am more inclined to intel and Nvidia GFX. I won't be runnin a SLI setup but I may add in future or put my 8800GT for physx. I will be buying the PSU. It has 2x6pin PCI-E and 2x6+2pin PCI-E..

EDIT: The PSU is still under offer

Re: Want a new build BUT...

Might be worth picking up a graphics card as well, overclocked to 3ghz and the good old e6600 still performs very well in most games.
And you can save up and/or wait and see what Bulldozer does to the market.

I still think that the gtx560 (non-ti) or a factory overclocked gtx460 1gb is a better option, still plenty of power and a good chunk cheaper

http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-e...resplusmafia-i at 859mhz core that's actually faster than a gtx560(non-ti) at stock (and only a 3year warranty, not the 10year warranty)
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-a...-x-dvi-i-mhdmi

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/P...0_2_GB/27.html review of a 2gb version, however it's one of the few that include the figures for both gtx560TI on non-ti versions

So you'd be paying an extra £43 for about 10% performance gain

Again Hexus review of an overclocked gtx560 non-ti http://www.hexus.net/content/item.ph...=30427&page=14

Difference between average 95.8 and 104.5 fps (non-ti vs ti) is not really going to be noticeable.

So a GTX 560 + overclocked E6600 would perform well. Then this is awesome I have money to spend for a 560 and the antec true power 650w. I will wait till bulldozer shows up or buy a intel 2500K, till that I will save money. Very much thanks.

    This pre-overclocked GTX560TI 1GB is much cheaper:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/PNY-nVIDIA-G...686572&sr=8-10

Also,do you really need a Crossfire capable motherboard??

You can get this motherboard for example:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-p...usb30-firewire

    This cooler is also cheaper:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/antec...plus-am3-3plus

The money saved would mean you can get a GTX570 instead:

I am not buying outside SCAN, because will be using BNPL option from SCAN..

I wont be using a SLI.. But I have a 8800GT which will be use as a physx card. Another doubt, if I put the 8800GT, will the cards run in 8x or both will run in 16x ? I really likes the z68 chipset future proof and has onboad GFX connections, which will be usefull if the card gets RMA'ed.

Re: Want a new build BUT...

going right back up the posts, the difference between the 2 MOBO isn't that great, mainly with the connectivity on the back plane and internally. Personally I'd go for the XP but if you want e-sata look on the other board.

I'd be surprised if physx requires 8x.

I have decided to buy GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3...

I dont care if the physx wants to runs in 1x.. but am more concerned about the primary GFX, will it run in 16x or 8x ?
