    i5 4690k Build Review

Time to upgrade from my trusty Q6600. Please let me know your thoughts about this budget build. I have to order in the next 24 hours.

Corsair CX600M Semi-Modular PSU (£51.90) - I can buy this or will the 450W VX Corsair from my old system be ok?
    Intel Core i5-4690K (£155)
    Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3 (£52.50) or MSI Z97 Gaming 3 (£90.50)
    Corsair 16GB 1600MHz CL10 DDR3 (£55)

MSI GTX 580 Twin Frozr (from my old system)
Corsair 120GB SSD (from my old system)
Samsung F1 500GB (from my old system)

Main uses for PC.. Playing PES 2016 and GTA. Designing in Photoshop, Illustrator etc

If you're not overclocking then I expect power draw would go down, not up, so if your old supply was working then it should still be fine.

Would say your old PSU would do just fine.Worst case scenario you would experience blackouts during stability test after an OC attempt. That could be the initiative to buy a new, better PSU. Till then recycle what you can

4.8GHz OC on i5 4690K pulls 180W from wall in Bit Tech test when Prime95 SmallFFTs are being run.

As GPU in that test setup is not being stressed you could add upto 213W on top IMO. For my approximation I've used Bit Tech GTX 580 review info, this is ref clocks, 3DMark06 Canyon Flight test, 1,280 x 1,024 0xAA 16xAF, as GPU load. I've taken load W - idle W for my 213W figure, of course there is some in accuracy in this calc as other system load is in there as well. IMO what W Prime95 SmallFFTs uses a game/normal loads wouldn't.

SO 180W + 213W = 483W from wall, lets say 87% efficiency for gold certified PSU @ 100% load = 427W PSU (approx.) would pull 483W (approx.) from wall is pretty much worst case.

Did take a look at a JonnyGURU review of the Corsair VX 450W and TechPowerUP. You can see efficiency in those reviews for your PSU, is a good PSU just like my Seasonic S12 600W was. I sold it on ebay several months ago as PSU was now 7yrs ish old and didn't want to risk new kit with it. I was also gonna flog my Q6600 but as wasn't getting what I thought it deserved I ended up keeping it and used the cash from S12 (net £30) to get a CoolerMaster V650 (£61).
