First Skylake build - Thoughts?
Re: First Skylake build - Thoughts?
The SATA drive and perhaps the motherboard stand out as being not quite as over the top as the other components. Consider a PCI-E SSD (either card or M.2) instead.
Re: First Skylake build - Thoughts?
Yeah, adding an m.2 of that capacity would add a conssiderable amount for that budget but read/write speeds of about 4x faster are a great addition to a skylake build
Re: First Skylake build - Thoughts?
If you have the 'dough' to burn, M.2 is a nice way to do it :) little real world return compared to a SSD but mediocre 'e-peen' growth :D
Re: First Skylake build - Thoughts?
Apparently there's not a ton of real world gains with M.2. The boot up is faster, but once in Windows the actual noticeable gains are minimal. Then there's the throttling issue too.
Of course a benchmarking system is different if you're after synthetic gains. I'm considering a Samsung 850 Pro for my new build. Seems to be giving the best bang for buck.

Ditto on a 6700k, £100 CPU cooler, Z170 motherboard, 16GB memory or Platinum power supply.
