High End build for triple monitor gaming

    Hi,

My current PC is getting a little long in the tooth and since my housemate is looking at possible buying it, it might be time for me to replace it.

The plan for the system is for triple monitor gaming (elite dangerous, GTA V, WoWS, WoT and a few others.). My current 290x can't handle this at the moment at 60fps. CPU will be overclocked to 4.2-4.4Gb if possible for video recoding.

    Storage plan
    OS - Samsung M2 850 250Gb
    Docs - Samsung 850 Evo 500Gb
    Games - Samsung 850 Evo 500Gb
    Video/Local Music Storage - Seagate Barracuda 3TB

A Couple of questions still remain:-
Is the SLI bridge the right size for the motherboard (GPU's will be installed in slots 1 and 2)
    Is the PSU large enough?
IS there any requirement for additional fans?
    Have I missed anything?

    Thanks for your help.

Re: High End build for triple monitor gaming

Power supply is more than enough. The cards you have selected are 180W parts, so what do you expect to use the remaining 640W? Your SSDs? Lets be liberal and allocate 200W to your base PC, you're still pulling under 600W. I'd probably revise down if anything.

Here's a note on SLI bridge lengths: http://www.pcper.com/news/Graphics-C...dge-HB-Bridges

By the looks of the picture of that motherboard, you need a 1-slot bridge. That is, a bridge that will stretch from the PCB in first expansion slot, cover the fan slot, then cover a blank gap (PCIe x1 slot by the looks of things) before hitting the forth expansion slot PCB for the second card.

Additional fans depends on how many and the motherboard and case. Without doing your homework for you, there will be a number of fan headers on the motherboard that you can plug your fans in directly. If you run out of fan-headers you can either use "Y" splitter cables to run two off one, or you can get a Molex adapter and run them full-speed off the PSU or put in a fan-controller. Some cases come with basic fan controllers.

Re: High End build for triple monitor gaming

Thanks for that. I went for the 1000 watt due to somewhat of future proofing (Might want to go to fully water-cooling at some point).

You were right on the 1 slot. Myself and someone from Scan ended up trying the different bridges yesterday to work out the spacing.

    And the built system:

Looks good. Push-pull on your CPU should keep things pretty chilly!

Nice and tidy too. Did you miss anything out?

Yep, Replacement thermal paste so had to go with the stock h115 stuff. Will keep an eye on it but the cpu is running at 4.7Ghz at 1.35V and around 70 degrees so happy with it at the moment. Its also pretty silent as the water doesn't really go over 35-37 degrees so no need for stupid fan speeds.

Just need to work on the GPU overclock but firestrike gave the system a score of 25210 so happy with that.

Tell me about it but those are the only cables that would work with the psu. Not sure why they supply bright red cables. I was tempted to replace them but Cable Mod kits are not cheap!

    2 x 1680 x 1050 on the outside and 1 x 2560 x 1080 on the inside.

Althought stupid me didn't take how Nvidia surround worked so I am now struggling to get that to span across the three of them.

What's the issue with nvidia surround? I've never tried it.

All three monitors need to be the same resolution. Seems a bit backwards after using eyefinity for so long.

Not sure to be honest. Would think its around 650-700w under full load with the overclocking.
