    Re: New build

I'd be inclined to wait for Coffeelake CPUs, which are due to be released in about a month's time, I think. You'll probably get a six core CPU for the price of the 7600K.

    Re: New build

Well the obvious first question is, why not wait for CoffeeLake?

Even if there is some initial profiteering, a six core for the price of a quad core is not bad and the first time Intel has offered more than their previous offering in a very long time. Although, while the CPU price might be the same (that's the current rumours but the i5-8600K is meant to replace the i5-7600K so it makes sense), Z370 motherboards (the only chipset on offer at launch) are likely to be expensive to begin with.

The obvious 'mistake' in your proposed build is that you've gone for a 'K' CPU but at looking to buy a H110 chipset motherboard so you won't be able to overclock. For overclocking you need a Z170 or Z270 board. Also a H110 board might not work with Kabylake at all without a BIOS upgrade - so you'd have to make sure the retailer guarantees it.

The next question is why not buy Ryzen? A Ryzen R5-1600 is 6C/12T, comes with a cooler and is still cheaper than the bare i5-7600K (CPU + cooler is £188.40 vs £223.48). And B350 motherboards which are able to handle modest overclocks are cheaper than Intel boards too. Ryzen would like better RAM though but - assuming you've speced DDR4 2400 in your list - so would Kabylake.

Also not sure about your PSU choice although it's hard to find anything decent for that price if you actually need 600W. Of course, putting your parts into pcpartpicker shows a load of 322W:

    Re: New build

What is the spec of their current system and are any parts reusable? An upgrade might be viable and more importantly cheaper!

Regarding the CPU if you get a Ryzen 5 1600 you could probably fit a GTX1070 quite easily into the build.

Now a Coffee Lake 6C CPU will be an option but unless you go for the locked Core i5 8400,a Core i5 8600k will cost more as the CPU will be more expensive and lack a cooler as rumours hint at a higher than £200 pricing IIRC.ll also will also need a more expensive Z370 based motherboard too unless you don't want to overclock and want to run faster RAM.

    Re: New build

As CAT has said, unless his old pc was very bad upgrade may well be better than a new one

ryzen is a good option to get a better graphics card.

Other thing to ask is which GTX1060 is that? the 3gb or the 6gb? seems to be a big difference even at 1080p

Finally unless there's been some major change to the old ACf7p that I've missed I'd look at something better, Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO is still one of the better budget option AFAIK

    EDIT: PSU??
Not sure about that one, I'm a bit behind but the ThermalTake TR2 range wasn't a great one in the past.
I'd say put in a little more £ and look something better around 450-500w range

eg https://www.scan.co.uk/products/450w...-psu-120mm-fan made by Delta or the good old seasonic s12ii https://www.scan.co.uk/products/520w...fully-wired-at

    Re: New build

Tanks for the replies, the old PC was circa 2008 and liquid damaged, it was an old Athon, DDR2 machine.

the 1060 is 6GB model, PSU comments noted and passed on :-)

I would get a better PSU and a cheaper SSD. I will try and put up a list in a few hours.

is that one of the HEC built psu's?
It should be fine unless he's looking to overclock.
Same is probably true of the original ThermalTake 600w £41.99 he listed
None of them are the utter garbage you can find.

Are the XFX psu's still decent? still made by seasonic?
