My current PC I put together in 2008 (I think, it was so long ago I don’t remember!) & while it still struggles along it is definitely in need of replacement/upgrade. It is an intel Q6600 (running at 3GHz), 8GB of DDR2 RAM at 800MHz & a GTX960 (6GB)
My plan is to do it bit by bit, just to help spread the costs, starting with motherboard, processor & RAM. Initially these will replace the old components but will eventually become a whole new PC.
The aim of the upgrade/rebuild is a PC that will game at 4K for now, a little bit of video editing & hopefully see out another 6+ years.
I’m looking at starting with:
Intel i7 8700k & Asus ROG strix Z370-F bundle from Scan at £478.98 - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/asus...e-6-core-unloc
16GB DDR4 RAM (to start with, more will be added later) - as yet I’m undecided on speed (the price difference between 2133MHz & up to 3000MHz really isn’t all that much) & number of sticks (2x 8GB or 1x 16GB). Whatever I go for there’s about £150 - £175 here.
Can anyone help out here - is there a benefit to more smaller size sticks or fewer larger sticks?
If I swap out the motherboard, processor & RAM into my existing case & storage drives how much is this going to upset Windows? Am I looking at buying windows again or can I use my current installation of it?
Thank you all for your help
