I would be tempted to leave the HDDs on the old motherboard running an open NAS setup so all 4 are running in raid-Z.

I kind of like that idea but part of my plan is selling the board/processor/ram. Seems my board is still worth £80-£100 so its aged very well.

    Re: Upgrade Time, i5 3570k to 3700x

So far 2 NVME's and ram ordered, was just looking at boards and found what appears to be a pricing error on the x570 Aorus pro Wifi here:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07VB84BNC

£20 more for wifi, better memory support, more PCI-E connectivity and a slightly better VRM and heatsink, looks like I may need to wait but thats ok, will see how the order goes, if cancelled back to the elite.

    Re: Upgrade Time, i5 3570k to 3700x

So been running system for a while.

So final spec updated in my profile.

    So main notes:
Ended up woth Gigabyte X570 Aorus pro due to good deal bundled with processor.
Ram (3200mhz) overclocked to 3600mhz with no issues with slightly looser timings (not bad for 4x16gb sticks).
Also upgraded to a Vega 56
Ended up using primocache in the end, so now have 16GB ram cache over a 500gb NVME boot and a 250gb NVME cache which is over 2 raid 0 arrays. In short everything is fast while still having a lot of storage.

Past that due to aggressive ram caching (wasn't part of the original plan) its no running on a UPS (Got a good deal on a refurb with new batteries).

Overall a very sucessful upgrade and massive leap in performance which should be fine for a few years now. May upgrade to more storage and probably go through another couple of gpus before another rebuild.

Also got £220 for my previous board, ram, cpu and ssd.
