    DeskMini A300 build

Been a few years since i built my precent PC and since then i've not kept up on new parts and specs so am needing some help.
Would you say these parts are compatible, they should just ‘work’ no updating or tweaking the bios or anything else.
Are these parts a reasonable balance/match I’m not about to limit the system by fitting mismatched parts.
    ASRock DeskMini A300
    AMD Ryzen 5 3400G
    Corsair Vengeance Performance SODIMM 16GB DDR4 3000MHz 2x8GB
    Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 250GB M.2 NVMe

    Also.
Will Ubuntu install ok as the first and main OS, do you/anyone know of any driver or whatever problems. I’m trying to wean myself off Microsoft and if possible will not dual boot W10.

That CPU might not work, depending on BIOS:
    https://www.asrock.com/nettop/AMD/De...%20Series/#CPU
Consider the 2400G - it's basically the same as the 3400G (slightly lower clocked, but otherwise the same), will work on the A300 without a new BIOS, and ~£20 cheaper.

I can't speak for linux, but the other parts should work just fine. I'd also recommend at least considering faster RAM - going up to 3600 MHz is only ~£10 more, and will give a fair improvement for an APU like that. Finally, the 970 is a very pricey drive - you can get 500 GB NVMe drives for less, which will give identical performance in real-world applications. Something like the intel 660p, which won't have the same headline bandwidth in synthetic benchmarks but in practical consumer use cases will perform identically as the latest greatest high-speed drives

Linux should work just fine, including graphics drivers, straight from install with no extra downloads etc required. I'm only using the word "should" instead of "definitely will" because I don't personally use Ubuntu, but tbh I would be shocked if it didn't all just work out the box thanks to AMDs open source friendliness.

That asrock box looks rather nice

    Re: DeskMini A300 build

Thanks for the replys, your answers did help, points to think on.
I asked the seller (Scan) a couple of questions and have been waiting for their reply before posting here again. Was a poor reply, didn't answer the asked questions, but I'll buy from them regardless.

It looks like the now installed bios in the A300 will support the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G - but if not i can install the bios that does

The Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 250GB M.2 NVMe, i dont need bigger than 250GB as i have a NAS, i store everything there and 250Gb is quite big enough for a OS or two, installed programs and some temporary files, think the greater read write will be more useful (but is not my area of expertise so i may be wrong).

The A300 will take a max Ram of 3200mhz, scan only sells a suitable max Ram of 3000mhz - 32000mhz sold elsewhere is expensive. I am however thinking of spending more on Ram, even if its going to hurt a bit
    Corsair Vengeance Performance SODIMM 32GB DDR4 3000MHz 2x16GB Scan code: LN98520 Manufacturer code: CMSX32GX4M2A3000C18

Linux/ Ubuntu, had read somewhere about the graphic drives not fully supporting the A300/APu good to hear that i shouldn't have problems

Again thanks for the answers, any comments still welcome

Hi. I'm thinking of ordering the same setup from Scan. Did you need to flash the BIOS to 3.50 for it to boot? Did the 3000mhz RAM work?
