Well at least their statement is accurate

Doesn't mention noise but I have done rendering on my machine for 48 hours with all cores at 100% and I have never heard the fan

Did some looking at test reviews and a few mention the EVGA units as being noisier than other brands. Some Corsair units have in-cable capacitors and the affordable RM ones that are quiet only have ball-bearing fans not HDB or similar. A few reviews mention coil-whine on some units. Superflower units seem to have disappeared from stock and NZXT/Be Quiet units apparently are anything but, and not as stable ripple-wise as others out there. So after much too-ing and fro-ing I...
picked up a Seasonic Snowsilent 750W Prime. Low noise <22dBA even at 100% according to Seasonic website. Not the cheapest, but should do me ok. I just wish I'd got it back in October when prices were £40 lower than now as they are becoming EOL due to model refresh.
Now to decide on either a DH-15 or AIO for the cooler.
Holy thread revival Batman! What did you go for in the end?
After half a year of pondering I finally got round to upgrading my PC (spurned on by my mum's Windows 7 box having ancient hardware that wasn't worth trying to get onto Windows 10, she get my old one!). Spec updated in my profile. I found an old Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO in the loft (unused!) but the contact point is a bit small for the heat-spreader on the chip and lack of flatness due to the 'direct contact' heatpipes does put me off. Anyway I'm getting annoyed by the whirring under the desk - the GPU fans rarely turns on when working (remote session) staying sub-50oC, but the CPU is idling above 50oC and now on 60oC writing a forum post. The 92mm fan spins up to 1800 RPM to keep it under 60oC which as I say, a bit annoying considering the Noctua case fans are purring along at 750 RPM.
I know the Ryzen 5 chips aren't going to sit at 30oC any more like older chips. What are the current recommendations? From a quick google the following have had shout outs for sensible money:
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO ~ £30
- ARCTIC Freezer 34 ~ £25
Noctua and be quiet! get shouts for quality, and Noctua obviously gets the votes in this thread - but Noctua are looking like serious money. The be quiet! Pure Rock 2 seems like a reasonable punt at £30, thoughts? Or does someone want to try and talk me up to a £55 or even £75 cooler on a £150 CPU?

Bequiet are generally pretty damn quiet to be fair. While its well above the price point you are looking at, my dark rock pro 4 is virtually silent and still keeping my Ryzen 7 3800x cool

You could try an Arctic P12 silent on it. Nice cheap quiet fans. I have F14 silents in my case. You might need cable ties to hold the fan on to a heatsink made for a 92mm fan with special clips though. The fact it's a 92mm fan sized HSF could be a reason it's not cooling the CPU very quietly.
Personally I say Nocuta CPU air coolers all the way. I had one on my overclocked i7 920 for over 10 years and I have a NH-U12S now.

Did some spammer resurrect this then get his post deleted? I got the noctua nh-u14s as good performance and slim enough to fit two fans and not block the ram slots. Working ok but still need to sort the fan profiles. 2nd fan is an akasa Apache. Nicer looking and quieter running.
Can I recommend the Deepcool Gammaxx GTE Black V2 - £27 shipped from scan, similar performance to the Hyper 212 Evo, but looks much nicer.

FWIW my chip sits at 28C idle which I'm rather happy with. Rises to approx 30C if left on for a while.
