Thinking about getting the RX6800, which CPU?

As per the title, I am building a PC to game. Play mostly competitive shooter, some MMOs. I have 2 1080p 144Hz monitors.

I want to get the RX 6800 but not sure which CPU to get. I think going for value 3600 will be good, otherwise I feel like I would step up to the 5600X or the 5800X. do people have any recommendation? Would the 3600 suffice and be good enough for dual monitor 1080p gaming?

I would say a Ryzen 5 5600X or Core i5 10600K,especially since you like MMOs,many of which seem to be still limited by single core performance. Another altenative is the Ryzen 7 3700X,which trades some single performance for better multi-core performance.

If you're aiming for 1080p I'd say 5800x is probably a better choice then 5600x tbh. If you were targeting 1440p / 4k then you'd be GPU bottlenecked so 5600x is better. But at 1080p CPU will be the bottleneck, so faster clock speeds = better fps.

3600 is a good CPU, i have it aswell. the new gen will give you more performance but theres a steep price jump as we are still missing the 5600 which would be an obvious choice for many. if you can give a list of games maybe we can find a couple benchmarks that show you what theres to gain with 5th gen.

i think for most it will be a choice between 3600 and 5600x atm for gaming.

As said above a ryzen 5600x would be ideal especially at 1080p but you would be fine with even with a 3060 if your budget is tight.

The value for the 3600 is unbeatable, especially if you upgrade very regularly. If you have a bit more room to stretch or you only upgrade once in a blue moon I would go for the 5600x. AMD are also claiming theres will be some performance benefit to teaming the ryzen 5000 series with a Radeon RX 6000 gpu with a feature theyre calling smart access memory. Only time, and probably benchmarks, will tell if that's worthwhile though. Edit: AMD are saying that it's not proprietary so might be available for other vendors in the future!

    3600 if really on budget,

for 5000 - 5600x if you're on budget, 5900x if you can wait patiently and want something more futureproof.

Don't go for 5800x - worse price/core compared to 5600x and 5900x, if you consider 5800x just go for 5900x and you should be set for years for gaming + streaming.

I'm personally waiting for my 5900x because it seems like an amazing investment atm.

either budget 3600 (x or standard) or 3900x / 5900x since the x900x and x950x can make better use of the infinity fabric or some such due to the chip architecture. IIRC memory throughput gets a big boost vs the lower chips.

The 5600x is by far the best choice. SAM support and best bang for your buck. Go got a B550 board and you're good to go.
