    Re: Coronavirus PC

Any reason you won't consider a Ryzen 7 3700X or a Ryzen 9 3900X. The new XBox specs have been released in detail today and it uses an 8C/16T AMD CPU. If you are going to stay with an Intel build here are my suggestions:
1.)For that kind of money I would be looking at Platinum efficiency as it will help at lower loads. Also a decent 650W PSU should be in theory enough, unless you want to go SLI. Corsair has the white RM750X for less money which will fit the colour of your build.
2.)I would get the Toshiba X300 8GB as its a faster HDD
3.)The Samsung SSD is overpriced,as you can even get PCI-E 4.0 SSDs for similar money. A 2TB Adata SX8200 PRO is around £240. A 1TB version is around £130 and the 2TB WD SN750 is around £170.
4.)The RTX2080 Super is only around 10% to 15% faster than an RTX2070 Super and has the same amount of VRAM. AMD and Nvidia will probably be launching new GPUs at the end of the year too.
6.)Surely a Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite or Pro would do the job??
7.)Intel is on the cusp of releasing a new range on a new socket(https://www.kitguru.net/components/c...700k-pictured/)
8.)RAM is slow for the price. I would be aiming for 3200MHZ and Micron E-die or Samsung B-die as these seem to be able to run at higher clockspeeds better.

@cat thank you for such a great response.
Yeah no reason why I wouldn't go for ryzen 9 3900x. Apart from having to change the mobo, what else would need to be changed?
Also what mobo would you go for? The main thing I want is built in WiFi! Lol

[QUOTE=Domestic_Ginger;4184792]What res and use is it for?
    4k screen dual monitors.

Mostly for office use and gaming. Eg far cry

Doesn't have to be intel. I just assumed they were best currently. Nope I can get away with 16gb if you think?

    Re: Coronavirus PC

I suppose the Core i9 9900K if overclocked to the edge will be faster,as the Ryzen CPUs tend to perform at 95% of the performance out of the box with the stock cooler. However, the platform the Core i9 9900K is being replaced in a few months by another Intel incompatible platform, with the same cores, but now 10 of them. AM4 will probably have more series of upgrades in Zen3 CPUs being released towards the end of the year,ie,its not a dead platform which would also mean a few years down the line,if you need to replace the motherboard for any reason its easier with the AMD platform. AM4 with X570 and B550 series motherboards also has access to PCI-E 4.0 for the main PCI-E slot, and PCI-E for SSDs,ie,you can upgrade to a PCI-E 4.0 SSD at a later date, unlike with the current Intel platform.

To put in context, here is a solid AMD AM4 rig.

There is better RAM for the price but I assume you want RGB??

If you don't mind going for a more basic motherboard with no PCI-E 4.0 and with no Wifi, this is a very good deal too:

    https://www.awd-it.co.uk/amd-ryzen-9...pu-bundle.html

You can always add a PCI/PCI-E wireless card. Its cheaper than the Ryzen 7 3700X with the fancier X570 motherboard, but is a 12 core CPU.

Here is a review of the 65W TDP Ryzen 9 3900:
    https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/revi...iew-eco-mode/2

You can see the 65W Ryzen 9 3900 compared in the review against an overclocked Core i9 9900K.

Both the stock coolers for the AMD CPUs have RGB lighting.

A Core i9 9900K alone costs more than the Ryzen 9 3900 and the MSI B450 Tomahawk motherboard!!

Its kind of ridiculous how efficient it is!

    Re: Coronavirus PC

I would only get an X570 board if you don't mind the noisy little fan on the mobo. Having had a motherboard northbridge fan fail in the past an X570 is not for me. The PSU I would change for a Seasonic Silent. Because silence, efficiency and a long warranty are what you need from this essential component. I can also vouch for the Adata SX8200 PRO M2 SSD.

Superflower are one of the best producers of PSU's, the choice they made is a solid choice with a 9.7 rating on Jonny Guru

Is it silent? Also why buy one of the best when you could buy the best for similar money? That said availability is poor on the Seasonic Silent I bought!

    Re: Coronavirus PC

The seasonic scored 9.5 so is it the best?

As for noise the superflower is like the seasonic in that it is silent up until a preset temperature when the fans (on both units) start

    Re: Coronavirus PC

I'd replace that SSD with an Adata XPG SX8200 or a WD Black SN750. I wouldn't pay more than £120 for a Gen 3 NVME M.2. For £160 you could get a Gen 4 SSD (if you were going Ryzen). You can also get a CD key for Win 10 for under a tenner. Go on Hotukdeals and type in windows 10. All legit

Also no need to pay over £100 for a decent 750w PSU. If you aren't in any rush to build I'd wait for the 5900X. Although OC currently have the 5800X for £389.99 which is pretty good as its only £90 more than 5600X for 2 more cores.
