I don't have time to read the entire thread but I want to ensure, as RAM is being mentioned, you have taken into account dual and single rank memory. This is becoming common on cheaper laptops and is starting to sneak into desktop memory as well. There's a severe performance hit. Linus explains.

I haven't got to the memory yet, but I was vaguely aware of the dual v single issue, and watched that LTT video. Also an interesting one where some PCs/laptops seem to have been getting reviewed with one spec and silently switched to another, and yet another where hgih-end gaming laptops seemed to vary about 20% on some benchmarks withthe exact memory spec being enough to swing the win between AMD and Intel chips.

All of which suggets to me that whie I haven't got to that bit yet, it is a potential beartrap for the unwary i.e. me.

So thanks for that. It could be a big thing and easy to miss.

I love this forum, and you guys.

Re: Fairly high-end PC spec ....

With RAM for Ryzen Corsair, the most consistent set used to Crucial Ballistix Gaming RAM as it used Micron E-dies. However,it seems more recently you might get other Micron module types for 32GB dual channel kits, and some can be single ranked for 3600MHZ sets(according to chat over on OcUK forums). AFAIK,the 3200MHZ 32GB dual channel kit isn't affected yet. Also,3200MHZ is the maximum stock memory speed for Zen2/Zen3 so anything more is technically overclocking the memory controller.

    Edit!!

I use the Adata XPG D10 3600MHZ kit, because I couldn't get hold of a Crucial kit. It's a 50/50 mix of Micron E-die and Hynix CJR. I got Hynix CJR,but still it seems fine a 3600MHZ with tighten timings.
