Minor but irritating issue with my beloved 3XS rig

My Core i7 rig is exhibiting a really annoying 'issue' that has no impact on its performance, but does grate on the nerves somewhat.

The case I have is a Siverstone Fortress FT01B-W - a case I used, in part, because it actually fits on my desk (most 'performance' cases are too deep to fit on my 500mm deep desk which is 50mm away from the back wall and there is no space to move it out further). One of its downsides (which I discovered in a review of the case recently) is that the aluminium side panels are on the thin side, and they are not very substantial even with the acoustic matting on the inside.

The result - rather too often, a high-pitched vibration from one (or quite often both) of the side panels that 'pulses' every few seconds (usually in time with the rig's fans adjusting their speed). The pitch of the vibration is due to the aluminium - steel cases vibrate (if they do vibrate audibly) at a lower frequency (well, good steel cases made of nice thick steel do), and it is rather jarring, especially compared to my last rig that was all but silent despite having a power-hungry heat-generating 7800GT and a 90W TDP Athlon64 3800X2 in it).

Only a firm tap seems to stop the vibration - for a few seconds (minutes if I am lucky, hours if the heavens are really smiling upon me). Just applying pressure only seems to work for as long as the pressure is applied plus a few seconds afterwards, and I have of course tried all combos of tightening/loosening the screws at the rear of each panel with no luck.

Aside from the fact that I do not like hitting my lovely new rig (no matter how lightly), this is rather (correction: incredibly) annoying :mad: to put up with for the rather large number of hours that I am working and playing on this machine each day.

Now for the next jolly little job - cleaning the fans and fan filters (the 6-monthly 'service' for the rig is due :)), followed by installing some lovely new games to play :)

I used to have an extremely annoying panel vibration, i solved it by putting a little bit of bluetack on the inside of each corner of the panel to add pressure and stop the noise.

Trying the 'Blu-Tack solution' right now (why did I not think of this? :embarrassed:) - will see how it goes, but so far things are looking (and more importantly, sounding) good.
