Intermittent Mouse Freezing - Windows 7 64 bit

As Ben had included these settings, I decided to implement this on my overclocked 3XS Black Widow Extreme system because previously whenever I started up my PC each day, the Windows 7 desktop would appear but the mouse suddenly stopped working. I then had to switch off my PC and then switch it back on again and the mouse started to work again.

I was using my existing MS Intellimouse Explorer USB mouse.

After implementing the overclock settings, the mouse stuck issue appears to now have disappeared when I turned on my PC this evening, however after a short while my HP LP2475w monitor went to sleep and the PC decided to restart itself. I am not sure whether the restart was due to the settings I changed yesterday so that the system could recognise them and it is a one off.

I hope that the issue does not occur tomorrow.

What is your take on that Ben

    Re: Windows 7 & Overclocked PC's

I switched on my PC today and the mouse pointer just hung as soon as Windows 7 64 bit desktop appeared. I had to power off the system and power on again and the mouse now works fine.

It seems that the overclock settings do not work for the mouse.

has anyone else had this problem as I have seen some stuff in the forums but there is no definitive fix. Is there a mouse that works perfectly fine under Windows 7 64 bit.

Which mouse and keyboard was used during the system build of my Black Widow Extreme. Were there any similar issues. Philip or Suraj may know.

    Hi Dips

We use a standard PS2 or USB keyboard/mouse for testing systems, I use a Logitech MX518 on my system have been doing with Win7 64 since it was in early beta, I dont bother with the Logitech software though

Have you tried a different USB port maybe one of the top ones at the rear?

    Re: Windows 7 & Overclocked PC's

the balanced power settings windows 7 defaults also caused me DPC latency issues (huge spikes)
when EIST was enabled a problem i have never had on this rig

I also noticed while EIST was enabled if I tried to change power options in 7 it would revert back to defaults right away

I disabled EIST change power options to performance and re-enabled EIST problem solved

but it did take me ages to work out what was doing it

    Hi Sniperdude

We always disable EIST as part of overclocking as it isnt recommended to Overclock with EIST enabled

    Cheers

    Re: Windows 7 & Overclocked PC's

    Hi Ben,

Well, I tried using the other USB ports but it was the same thing. What I then decided to do was to disconnect the usb after shutdown and then after booting up connect it to the USB port once the desktop appeared and so far no hanging.

Any other suggestions are welcome or I may consider the Logitech mouse.

Intermittent Mouse Freezing - Windows 7 64 bit

I have a 3XS Black Widow Extreme PC running Windows 7 64 bit edition. Every now and again, the mouse freezes and I have to power off my PC and power on again. I have tried various USB ports but this does not solve the problem. It is an annoying problem. I did not have this issue with my Win XP PC.

I have seen other people post similar feeds in other forums and wonder if this is a general issue in the 64 bit edition. The PC is not a problem. I have implemented the overclock settings as suggested by Ben in Power Options but even before I made these changes, the problem was still present.

I have used a Wireless Optical Microsoft Mouse and my own Intellimouse Explorer with and without the Intellimouse drivers but no difference.

Is there a permanent solution to this problem.

    Regards

    Dips

Re: Intermittent Mouse Freezing - Windows 7 64 bit

    Hi Ben,

The build number of my system is 29298.

I uninstalled my Belkin Wireless UDB Adapter as Belkins support site mentioned that no Win 7 drivers are available. Since I did not require this, I am feeding a network cable from the back of the router to the PC to connect to the Internet as this seems to be the normal method.

I ran a utility called DPC Latency Checker and then decided to disable and then uninstall the USB adapter.

I switched on my PC as normal today and so far, I have not had any hanging issues up to now.

If you can look into any other potential issues then this would be great after you have checked my build.

    Regards

    Dips

Re: Intermittent Mouse Freezing - Windows 7 64 bit

Hi, sorry I didn't see this thread yesterday.

The wifi thing is very common as far as DPC go issues go, and it's a common issue with audio systems which tend to be very sensitive to these kind of things. Normally it'll only glitch when it's looking for a signal so apart from the first 30 seconds after you power on you should never notice it. If it's constantly looking then it will either normally be a poor signal from the router or the driver and in this case it looks like the driver.

The shouldn't be any other potential issues but I can't offer up a further solution past that for the wifi issue at this point, other than watch out for driver update for that card. If you do choose to go for another option wifi wise we can recomend the Edimax range as these are what I use with cpu sensitive audio/video solutions.

    Re: Windows 7 & Overclocked PC's

    Hi Dips

Has this issue been resolved by taking the USB Wifi dongle out?

If you find you need a USB one that works in Windows 7 I use this one

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Edima...ain-Win7-Ready

    This works great in Win7 64 & 32 Bit

You cant beat a wired connection though if you are an online gamer

    Re: Windows 7 & Overclocked PC's

    Hi Ben,

After I removed the driver for my Belkin USB Adapter and disconnected the dongle, I saw no hanging issues for 3 days.

Started the PC today and as soon as the desktop appeared, the mouse had hung. Now I am wondering if it is my MS Intellimouse even though I am using the Win 7 64 bit Intellimouse drivers. I pressed the Power Off button on my PC and powered back on and the system was ok therefore I am not sure where the problem is now. There is nothing specific in the Event Viewer - System Log except for the power off that I performed:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

    Re: Windows 7 & Overclocked PC's

I found a very interesting link that may relate to the problem so have a read of this:

    http://blogs.iium.edu.my/ariffin/200...s-and-freezes/

It relates to the AVG Free 9.0 antivirus. I had this installed on my PC and uninstalled this and I am now running Avast Free to see how this goes.

    hi ben

yes i agree when overclocking you should disable it while your doing the actual overclocking
but once the system is stable more often than not EIST works fine

my system is OCed and its never give me a problem

    Re: Windows 7 & Overclocked PC's

My PC froze just a few moments ago and I had to power off and on again. The freezing happened whilst browsing on the web.

I am now using Avast Free as my antivirus. I could try uninstalling this but I will be left with no antivirus.

The issue is not as frequent as before.

There must be some permanent resolution to this issue.

    Hi Ben,

Yesterday, I updated the Marvell Yukon Win 7 64 bit network drivers to the latest version that was released on 8th Jan 2010. Not sure if this will resolve the problem though. Are there any other suggestions
