    netsolve took my psu leads

I had my pc about two weeks ago but had to have a new psu after only a week, the new psu was a newer model and was fully modular whereas the old one was semi modular, after a long time of pulling and dragging my new pc about and having to make a phone call for help, the netsolve guy finally got it working,( although im not convinced the cables are in the right sockets) anyway he left and took all the spare cables from the new psu and the user manual with him....I questioned it just before he got in his car and he said 'just use the cables from the old psu'...now ive looked at how he has set up the new psu and there dosnt seem to be any spare sockets for a second gfx card... or at least the pci-e cables that I have left dont look like they will fit anywhere thats why i think he has either put the cables in the wrong sockets or the ones that I have off my old psu wont fit..I looked on the corsair website to see if its ok to use different cables and came across this

Q: I just changed my PSU from another Brand and used the cables from my old PSU when I installed my new Corsair HX series PSU and now my system will not turn on. What do I need to know?

A: You have to use the Cables that come's with your specific PSU and especially cables from another make of PSU will not be compatible, even cables from a HX520/620 would not be compatible with an HX1000 PSU for example. Please use only the cables that comes with your new PSU other wise you may damage your system components.

    Hi,

Could you clarify which PSU you had and which PSU the engineer installed? I'm not at work otherwise i would be able to check

If the cables are indeed specific to your PSU we will ship them back to you as soon as we receive them back from the onsite engineer.

    Regards,
    Rob @ Scan

Re: netsolve took my psu leads

I dont know exactly what model the original one was but it was a corsair 850w but it was semi modular and the label on it was a kind of violet/blue ish type of colour where as the one I have now has a gold label and is completely modular....also the old one had two spare sockets that were blue to indicate they were spare pci-e sockets....this one dosnt seem to have any spare ones.......do you know if there is a diagrame anywhere of the corsair 850 ax that shows what goes where so I can check that things are where they are supposed to be...btw thanks for your quick response.

Re: netsolve took my psu leads

    Hi,

Sounds like you now have the AX PSU, so we will arrange to ship the cables back to you when we receive them, as they are specific to your power supply

The PSU's and modular cables are designed in such a way that they will not fit into any socket that is incorrect or any PSU that isnt designed for those cables. So you can be assured they are in the right sockets.

If you could send a quick e-mail to systemsupport@scan.co.uk with your invoice and build number we can make a note to send the leads back to you.

There should be a few empty sockets left on the new PSU, although from memory they're not blue on the AX series but certainly enough to facilitate 2 extra PCI-E power connectors!

    Apologies for any inconvenience.
