    Computer not booting up.

I have an Abit IP35 PRO, with an Intel Q6600 CPU which I've being using for two years without any problems until, this week.

Now when i turn on the computer, it starts up for less than a second and shuts down, it starts up again after a few seconds shuts down again. I've cleared the CMOS memory, changed the power supply and the computer still won't boot up. The POST code LED display on the reads 9.9. Is there any solution to this problem?

On my System Build Form, there's a Build number, a QLQ number and an Invoice number. I've listed the build number as the order number; if it's the wrong number, where can i find the the order number?

I'm considering replacing the motherboard with a Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5 fitted with an, Intel Core i7 960 CPU plus 2 Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC3 10666. Is this feasible?

Is there a diagnostics facility in bios. Is ram / HDD ok?

It doesn't get as far as the bios before shutting down. It shuts down in less than a second. I've had failed memory cards and hard drives in the past but, they've never caused the computer to shut down.

I suspect it's either the motherboard or the CPU, more likely the motherboard.

    Hi

I have an ip35 pro it has a digital readout on the board when you power it on before it switches off see what the code is this could help diagnose the issue

It does sound to me like it's the motherboard or the CPU is overheating possibly CPU fan not working right so I would check those first

Support are open again on Tuesday if you need to call us

The motherboard display read "9.9.". I cleared the CMOS, removed the battery, now the display reads 0.1. Overheating is the unlikely cause because the problem occurred when i turned it on in the morning when it was stone cold. It hadn't been on since the previous afternoon.

    Re: Computer not booting up.

    Hi

It sounds like the bios on the board is faulty, you could try the Abit Care link on hexus this has a load of info on the Ip35 Pro including a bios update that isn't even available on the Abit UK website that I flashed my board with the other night.

If you can flash the bios it may just get the system working ok
Some revisions of Ip35 had a removable bios chip which can be replaced

    regards

    Ben

I've gone through the instruction manual; and one of the solutions listed for the computer not starting is to, press both the < > keys while pressing the power on button. I tried this and, the PC booted up normally. After all this hassle I'll update the bios.

    Re: Computer not booting up.

Hi glad it's all working now the latest bios doesn't fix the issue I have that the memory is misreported in win7 64 if you are using 4 gigs :-(

Says 4 gig installed only 2.75gig usable...

    Regards

    Ben
