    Hard disc performance

I have a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard with 2x 1TB Western Digital WD1002FAEX SATA 6Gb/s drives (and an older SATA II drive). My PC is running Win 7 64bit. It might be just me but lets say I'm doing some intensive hard disc bashing (like copying files) - the PC becomes almost slow to use and even simple things like loading a web page takes noticeably longer. Surely thats not normal? Could it be incorrectly set up or a driver issue? Running in standard IDE mode and no Raid.

    Hi

Have you tried this with the other drive taken out in its original configuration?

    Regards

    Ben

    Re: Hard disc performance

It is in its original config - all drives were fitted by Scan and Windows is the original Scan install. I wonder however if I installed some drivers from the motherboard CD that I shouldn't have while I was attempting to get AHCI to work (which I gave up with and set it back to IDE).

    Re: Hard disc performance

    Hi

You can try and remove the Chipset drivers and reinstall, we find 9 out of ten issues are relating to bad drivers or unstable 3rd party software so its probably best to remove any of these out of the equation

If the system was sold with Acronis there will be a backup image on the system to reload the fully tested OS and driver install we did here prior to shipping

If you dont have Acronis you can try and use the system restore option and roll it back to when you first got the system

    Regards

    Ben

    Re: Hard disc performance

Hi Ben, as discussed this morning, extra hard drive disconnected and machine now on test for around 4 hours. When I first booted the machine up with the hard disc removed, the machine did power down and then back up again before booting into Windows. Not sure if this is normal with a hardware change? I'll update you tomorrow with how the machine got on with Prime. Is it worth running any more intensive 3D tests such as 3Dmark?

Also, could you check which warranty my machine has a let me know?

    Cheers!
