Great news, fingers crossed. Looking forward to getting it back as Rift just plain sucks on my stand-in machine!
Looking ahead to the future, are these new sandy bridge systems proving more reliable when it comes to this RAM/stability issue?

Hi Thorbog
Netsolve have your system and will be in touch to deliver it to you
The Sandy Bridge dont have the memory issue as far as we can tell so far :-)

Hi there,
Unfortunately I've now inherited this dreaded problem.
My motherboard (Asus P6X58D-E) came with BIOS 0303. I've had this PC for over a year with no RAM problems. I decided to update to the newest BIOS version (0701) from the ASUS website after I had some restarting issues with my PC.
Anyway, I updated BIOS a few hours ago and my 6GB ram instantly became 2GB. CPU-Z is showing 6GB, however BIOS and windows task manager are showing 2GB. I then reverted back to the BIOS version that my MOBO came with (0303) and it's still only showing 2GB. I tried moving the RAM sticks around but that hasn't fixed it. I updated again to the newest BIOS 0701 and put on XMP profile to run my memory at 1600 as it should. Didn't fix anything still.
Was there ever a fix to this problem without needing to replace the motherboard? Clearly the new BIOS didn't fix the problem.
I didn't purchase this system from Scan, however I just came across this thread from google. I did however just buy the MSI 560TI 2GB from Scan last week and fitted it a few days ago if that qualifies me for any help
Gutted.....
appreciate any help
edit: I've never played around with anything in BIOS (everything is set to AUTO) so if there is a few values I could input that might fix this problem, I'd love to hear them. As I said, I was planning on overclocking my CPU anyway.. (i7 930).
Again, this problem happened literally as soon as I updated my BIOS so the problem can't be faulty RAM.
edit 2: After researching on the internet for a quite a few hours, it seems that a lot of people show 4GB Ram (with 6 installed) and varying values for the amount of ram. After about 20 restarts, each and every time my system only shows 2GB. It does not change at all (this probably doesn't point towards another problem, just a general observation).

Hi there,
First off, thanks for the reply!
As I said, I came across this thread from google and didn't buy a system from Scan. I did have a forum account after purchasing a 2GB GTX 560 from you guys. Is the invoice number for my new graphics card enough to qualify me for help?

Hi
Did you do a complete CMOS clear (Battery out for 30mins with power unplugged) after the bios update?
Please confirm the make and speed of the RAM as this may also be the issue
Regards
Ben
Hi there,
Yep, took out the CMOS battery for 1 hour.
the ram is 6GB Mushkin Blackline 1600MHz 8-8-8-24
It may be the memory chips that are used on the ram as one if the original issues we faced was that the Ram misreporting was only down to certain chip manufacturers
It could be, however as I said before, it worked with this RAM absolutely fine, with no problems for over a year.
I did try some Kingston RAM too which also only read one of the sticks.
Think i'll have to RMA it soon.
