    3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

    Arrived on Friday.

6GB installed and I can see them in the slots so I know they are there.

    However system only reports 2GB.

Only noticed it today when I started gaming and found games like Warcraft unplayable in memory intensive areas like Dalaran - seriously worse than my 5 year old laptop. Unable to tab out whilst playing without the HDD going mental for 5 minutes...

Saw you asking for details of the RAM in another thread so don't know if this helps:

    http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/2453/ram2g.jpg

    Invoice number E1498763.

    Further Edit:

I went into the BIOS and loaded the standard profile and upon rebooting I had 6GB again. So I went back and reloaded the OC profile and I still have 6GB.

Please advise on this as I notice other people are having memory issues like this due to a compatibility problem with a batch and I don't want to be checking my memory every time I boot up for the lifetime of the system!

I somehow suspect this will fail again within a day or two.

    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

Sadly when I booted it up today it had reverted to 2GB again. I've had to boot up 3 times to get it up and running although next time I may just leave it on Profile 1 as a temporary solution.

So looks like I will definitely need a fix for this one. Do I need to report it to you via a specific process or is this adequate?

Oh good. Maybe I won't need to send my machine in next Wednesday to have a similar problem fixed.

    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

I installed the beta BIOS last night. Got it set up and benchmarked to confirm I had the settings correct, all appeared ok.

I won’t know if it solved them problem until I get home from work tonight as for some reason the issue only occurs from a stone cold boot.

The problem occurred every single day after the machine had been shut down over night. However after going through the whole profile loading procedure and getting my RAM back I could reboot again and again and again or even leave it unplugged from the mains for 30 minutes and it would still boot up just fine with 6GB.

Then the next day from a cold boot it would be back to 2GB again. So I am looking forward to 4pm.

I will update this thread later…

I hope you have better luck than me. The beta BIOS I was given bricked my machine unless I took half the RAM out (I don't blame Scan for this, note). Out of interest, what motherboard do you have and what RAM do you have? (I have a P6X58D-E with 12Gb of Corsair RAM - 12GB 6x2G CMD12GX3M6A1600C8).

    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

I have the same motherboard as you. My RAM is 3 x 2GB Corsair as per the stick in the second photo linked in the first post in this thread.

I thought mine had bricked the mobo as I was expecting to be "prompted to reboot". At least according to the instructions...

I went to get a cuppa and came back to a blackscreen or rather the monitor saying no signal but the PC was still running... Had to turn it off at the mains as control alt delete wouldn't work.

Managed to get into the BIOS when I turned it on though. The default settings seemed ok and performed consistent with the specification when I loaded up some games.

I then entered the Overclock settings Scan gave me - curiously some of the settings differed from those that were in my Overclock profile when it shipped... I decided to enter the settings Scan gave me rather than those in the original shipped OC profile.

The two 3D Mark 2006 tests Scan did before shipping resulted in 26125 & 26063.

I ran it twice last night and both were >26500 so the new BIOS and the settings Scan gave me are working just fine in terms of performance. As I said though, the question remains as to whether the Mobo will detect/remember 6GB on the first boot tonight.

Hmmmmmmm. What version number is your beta BIOS? Mine is 450.

    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

It is version 001. Can't remember the date of it, 15/10/10 or something.

    Bad news buddy.

You bricked your PC for nothing. I logged on today and had 2GB.

So a note to anyone with this issue:

Do NOT, I repeat do NOT waste your time or risk bricking your PC by installing the new beta BIOS as it makes no difference.

The beta BIOS does NOT fix the issue.

    I await advice from Scan...

    Hi,

The 001 bios was an overnight beta we were sent to try and resolve the issue. It is a few days newer than the 450 bios that winterlove has.

I'll let the guys know in regards to your findings today Thorbog and have whoever you have been dealing with contact you in regards to the next step.

Just spoken to Ben and he says hold on until the Asus guy we have slaving away over a hot motherboard here in the corner has an answer. (we'll start cracking the whip harder now for you!)

    Re: 3XS Cyclone RAM Fault

Before I went to bed last night I loaded the standard default non clocked profile just to see what would happen.

When I got home from work today it still reverted to 2GB! That surprised me as I thought it was the overclock causing problems!!

I have to say this is really poor from Asus. My system is pretty much bread and butter as far as what many companies and DIY users are building these days (I7, standard Corsair memory etc). So if it is causing problems with a common as muck spec and basic default settings there must thousands of people with this issue.

    Hi Thorbog

Email me your details to systemsupport@scan.co.uk

We have had huge success with the Bios testing and have a new bios hot from Asus that we can email to you to update the motherboard

You must load the standard profile before flashing the bios and clear the cmos after the bios flash

    Regards

    Ben

Sounds promising. Can I try this too, please? (I've just sent my invoice number to the above address).
