Had a few spare minutes to read through the thread properly. These memory coolers do have a habit of becoming noisy! Because the fans are so small they have to operate at high RPM's to actually provide some airflow! Higher RPMs wear bearings out more quickly.
Like Ben has said, provided your case has good airflow, removing it completely won't affect your RAM at all. The way they're mounted on the RAM also contributes to the buzzing.
The RAM i've been running since 2007 came with the (much) older 1st generation of the cooler with even smaller fans and it went in the bin as soon as it got noisy!
