Seems slow

Just got my new 3xs system yesterday looks lovely but dosent seem any faster than my 3 year old pc new one takes a minute and a half to boot into windows and it has a solid state drive, does that sound right ?

Old system q6600 @ 3Ghz tow hard drives in raid 0 i think

new system Intel Core i5 2500K @ 4.7Ghz with 60GB OCZ Technology Vertex 2E, 2.5" Sandforce SSD, MLC-Flash, Read 285MB/s, Write 275MB/s


Will need to set up old pc and time it to boot into windows but im sure its quicker

That was quick, will using that affect warranty ?

Also just re booted again and this time it only took 1 minute , I did notice when booting it did come up that no hard disk was found only for a couple of seconds

That is slow. I go from cold to usable desktop in 44 seconds.

Hi g3po

The system is checking all Sata ports and if there are no drives connected it can slow the boot down, if you are not adding any drives to these ports they can be turned off in the bios

Also if you have any external devices connected it can slow the boot up sequence

It is more than likely the Marvell controller in the bios that needs to be disabled

Once in windows you should see a massive increase in performance in comparison to your older system

Whats the build number I will look into this for you

Hi g3po

The Marvell Controller can be turned off in the bios as you have no SATA 6 GB drives

Press Del to Enter the Bios as the system boots up
Advanced Mode - Onboard Devices
Marvell Storage - Set to Off and the Configuraton to disabled
Save and restart the system

Ok switched off marvel controller shut down pc then rebooted 1.21 so on average 10 seconds quicker. I will add that the boot times are normally on average 1 min 30 but sometimes over 2 mins.
Have only timed it once since marvel controller being switched off so will keep you posted but I must admit i'm very dissapointed that my 3 year old system boots faster

On another point could you tell me is 84 and 75 degrees temp for both my msi twin frazR II 560 ti oc cards normal i think the difference in temp is because of the sound card fitted obstructs part of the cooler on one of the cards ?

Checked temp using msi afterburner whilst playing bf bad company2 @ 1920 x 1080 on max settings

That system should be going from cold to properly usable desktop in under a minute. Something else is wrong there.

There are a lot of extra features on the new motherboards that are not on earlier boards
The bootup time is from when the system passes Post (Memory check) to Desktop - You can turn off any features you are not using for example Firewire, Jmicron Controller and this should help a little

The System also has Acronis True Image on so the Acronis Loader will delay boot slightly

With the Asus Pro boards if you time from when the bios screen shows to desktop I have tested a few Asus Pro systems here and the times to boot after the post beep are 40-50 seconds

The boot time finalising the windows loading as well depends on what programs Windows is loading into memory once it starts

Try disabling all the background Programs by doing the following

Press Windows Key and R
Type msconfig - Press Enter
Enable Selective Startup
Untick Load Startup Items
Apply
OK
Restart

You can also turn off the Acronis Loader in the Acronis Software

Past 2 days i've had bother booting into windows used startup repair and it said it couldnt fix it, basicaly gets to windows emblem screen and freezes ?

Have you tried what was suggested regarding msconfig? Can you boot to safe mode and try this?


Possible causes are Malware or a virus
Hard drive may have issues - you can test the drive(s) with the manufacturers test software off their websites (if its a faulty drive we will swap this out next week)

Corrupted drivers - You can uninstall the VGA drivers in safe mode as well if they are the cause

I am not at work till tuesday so cant get the spec of the system if you have a storage hard drive and an SSD for the OS try unplugging the storage drive and see if that helps

If its OS corruption and you cant get to windows you can reload the system with the original image and also if its a virus this will erase anything off the OS drive

You can test the Ram using Memtest this is freely available from http://www.memtest.org/

The card temperatures will vary and the top card always runs hotter as heat rises, the temperatures are within the safe limits for Nvidia GPUs I have a 580 and it runs to 90 degrees under load in some games

done the msconfig suggestion and yes does load quicker although do get the occasional stalling at windows logo but have a new problem when playing call pof duty black ops am getting regular blue sc reen crashes using latest nvidea drivers this is info

also says a clock interupt was not recieved on a secdondary processor within the allocated time interval ?

Try the standard bios profile as it may be that the game doesnt like the overclock
