    Overclocking Profile and other queries

    Hi,

I have written a similar response to a courtesy email I received this morning about the quality of the system. I felt I would post here as I have sent an email previously to the queries@scan address that did not get a response.

There appears to be a few issues with my system the first of which is that there doesn't seem to be an overclocked profile. When Nick from netsolve delivered the system last night he had some trouble getting it to start up initially. Once it eventually booted up he said asked if the system was overclocked, I said yes to which he responded that there didn't appear to be an overclocked profile. He said he would look into it so I went into another room to do something, when I came back in he was packing up and said that the overclocking profile was there and everything was fine now.

After he had gone I ran CPU-Z and then the small FTTP test in prime 95 as advised in one of scans previous emails to see the overclock. Unfortunately the CPU did not appear to be overclocked and was only running at the stock 3.4 GHz. I thought no problem and restarted the computer to load the overclocked profile using F12. There only appears to be one profile though.

I had some pics of the profile pages to show you but i'm not allowed to post any links..........

The other issue is that the audio and mic jacks on the top front of the case do not seem to be working. Do scan connect these up? I have plugged my headset directly into the sound card at the back and it is working.

    Thanks for your help.

Re: Overclocking Profile and other queries

I've had a response from Ben (by email) who has sent me the overclock settings, so I will try and sort this when I get home. He didn't mention anything about the audio issue mentioned above so any help with that would be appreciated.

    Hi Toops,

Do you have a dedicated sound card, or are you using the onboard sound?

    Regards,

    Hi Toops,

With the Xonar you need to manually select which output you are using, if you go into the Xonar Control Panel, You need to select "FP Headphones" you should get sound coming through.

Below image is from the DS, But the same applies. Just select analogue out as FP (meaning Front Panel)

    Glad you've got it working

I've never personally used a Mic with a Xonar.

Does it do the same with both front panel and direct connection to the rear?

    Which Mic are you using?

    Regards,

    Rob

Re: Overclocking Profile and other queries

Yes it appears to do the same with the front and direct connections. I'm using the SteelSeries SteelSound 5H V2 headset. I don't think there are any issues with the mic as it was working fine before I stared using it on the new system. I only realised there was a problem when one of my friends asked what had happened to my mic?

    Chris P / Ben,

I was looking at this thread as I still have overclocking issues on my machine. However, it saddened me to see someone else with an experience not disimilar to my own. It doesn't really surprise me to see that it involves Nick from Netsolve again. I'd like to know if the follow-up from my 'Closed' thread really addressed my concerns at all or were token words to present your services in good light.

Nick did a runner on me and lied about it. Here, it looks like he was less than honest as well.

Re: Overclocking Profile and other queries

    Overclocking Update:

I spoke to a very helpful person on the phone today (sorry I didn't catch their name) who walked me through setting up the overclocking and two profiles in the bios. It appears that there was an issue with the CPU voltage being set to 1.42, that was the reason when the comp was delivered it was struggling to boot up as it did the same just now when we set up the overclock again. It was quickly fixed by a change of the voltage to 1.43, which seems to have fixed the problem. That must have been the problem when Nick from netsolve was trying to switch on the pc.

The annoything thing is that he clearly lied to me when he said that the 2 profiles were there and the overclock was working. I was obviously his last delivery and setup of the day and he wanted to get home (he mentioned he had been up since half 5) but that seems pretty poor to me. Why offer system setup as part of the delivery service if when there is obviously something wrong with the system on setup nothing gets done?

    Mic issues:
I seem to still be having issues with the mic. I checked the xonar control panel and there were no environmental effects enabled as far as I can see.

The person on the phone today also walked me through disabling the onboard sound in the bios to see if that would work but it didn't. One thing I have noticed is that when I first speak it's ok but then seems to get more and more echo as I continue to speak.

    Hi Toops,

It was me you spoke to this morning

If you check your personal email I have emailed you instructions on how to disable the Asus sound card and to enable the onboard for you to test the microphone.

    Regards
    Sanjay

Re: Overclocking Profile and other queries

To test the overclock I ran Prime95 overnight along with CPU-z and Core temp. When I looked at the computer overnight the system had obviously restarted, as none of the programs were open. What's the best way to check what happened? For example, does core temp keep a log of what's happening while it's running?

    Hi Toops

When you leave the system running prime overnight take the network cable out as the system can reboot to add windows updates
