    In-game Stuttering

    Hello,

For the last 2 weeks I have been experiencing some in-game stuttering on my 3xs. Before I get into a panic trying to diagnose hardware problems. I thought I would try to do a re-install of the software, in case it is related to that. With my 3XS system I have the following CDs:

    Microsoft Office
    Nero
    Motherboard
    Graphics Card

Obviously there are quite an array of diagnostic and utility tools which accompany the 3XS, and I am concerned about where I will install these from if/when I do rebuild. Can anyone offer any advice?

(Please note: If anyone knows what the problem I am seeing is please say so before I waste any further time on a wild goose chase. The symptoms are this: 2 weeks ago, everything was fine. Then over the next 24 hours I had a tracker cookie reported, which was removed; installed about 2-3 games; Installed a patch for BF3; I have no dedicated sound card on my system, though this has not caused any significant problems the last 6 months; I have 4GB RAM on my system, again this hasn't caused any problems so far. Also, although I have just installed new games, the problem is happening on existing ones also, e.g. Battlefield 3. If I was more savvy I would have run some more diagnostics/whatever first, but I am not).

    Thanks in advance,

    Tynfid

I think there is a driver problem with some radeon cards that cause micro stuttering with bf3 that AMD are aware of and are supposed to be working on a fix....thats what someone was telling me a couple of nights ago as they also suffered from it.

    Hello,

I have an i-5, and SLI nvidia 560 GTS.

Do any of the above still apply?

    Thanks in advance,

It sounds like caching to me, ie loading files the game needs from your hard disk as you play, eg sound files. Keep your eye on the hard disk access light as you play, does it Flash when the game stutters? Why it hasn't happened before and has started happening now? I don't know.

Yes, the fact that you have 2 560's in SLI can cause stuttering, have you tried running the game on a single 560?

I did. I think it was the same. I will try it both ways and see if there is any difference.

I thought 2 Graphics cards was supposed to be better?

    Re: In-game Stuttering

SLI is known to contribute to micro-stutter (very quick but continuous stutter) - gcard drivers have never eliminated it.

If it's a bit more significant and occurs just on one card... is there an option in your graphics card profile to disable any power saving features. On NVidia cards you can set the profile for a game so that it's "Performance" based rather than "Power Saving". I had stutter on DeusEx2 and that fixed it for me.

    Hi tynfid,

Have you loaded the latest drivers from the nVidia website?

If you have installed the drivers from the CD that came with the system the drivers will be very out-of-date.

    Regards,
    Rob

    Re: In-game Stuttering

I've finally decided to reinstall everything. What's MSI afterburner, and at what point should I reinstall it?

    Hi

MSI afterburner can be installed after you have installed the Nvidia drivers, it is used for monitoring the temperature of the card in gaming and also used for overclocking the cards etc

    You can get this here
