24gb RAM Upgrade for my system. Overclockced 3XS P6x58D-E

I have had my 3XS Overclocked system for over a year now and it is great. It originally came with 12gb (6 x 2gb). I now want to upgrade to 24GB while still maintaining my overclocking.

Can I just replace my current RAM with Corsair Memory Dominator 12GB DDR3 1600 Mhz x 2.

    Thanks

I'm not from SCAN, but bear in mind that if you happen to be using Windows 7 Home Premium as your OS, there is an artificial maximum addressable RAM limitation of 16 GB.

If you are using Windows 7 Pro and upwards, or Linux, etc, this stupid limitation doesn't exist.

    Hi Zaytsev,

The points that Fraz has made above are worth considering, you will need to have an OS that supports 24GB RAM.

In regards to keeping your overclock with the extra RAM.... Generally the more RAM you have, the harder it is to maintain the overclock.

If the increased memory causes problems with the overclock and you're comfortable with changing settings in the BIOS, we can advise you with a few tweaks to get the overclock stable.

    Regards,
    Rob

Out of genuine interest, other than "because you can" why would you want 24gb of ram?

    I'm on Windows 7 Professional.

If I could have more RAM that 24GB on my Motherboard I would. My workstation is for 3D work and the rendering of my work needs it. For the same reason I run a pro graphics card, Quadro 4000. I use Autodesk Maya 2012 and I need stability.
