    Overclock

Hi got my pre clocked build

First off must say outstanding service and packaging system looks great in my case

I was wondering as i ticked the 4.6GHz extreme overclock in the terms it says overclock may vary within 100GHz

My rig is clocked to 4.3Ghz which would be 100Ghz below the Optimized 4.4Ghz

Is there any reason for this I bought the Asus Rampage IV Extreme, i7 3820 with Corsair H100 Hydro Series - Extreme Performance and the 16GB (4x4GB) Corsair Dominator Platinum, DDR3, 2400MHz

    Thanks

    Hi,

It's a complicated one and a configuration I've never had before. But basically the maximum multiplier of the 3820 CPU is 44x. However, you can normally work around this by using the gear ratios on the motherboard, and we normally end up with a 120x38 overclock = 4.56GHz. As you have 2400MHz memory, I wanted this to run at the full speed, so I had to use a completely different multiplier. However, with the gear ratio set, the lowest frequecny I could obtain on the CPU was over 4.7GHz, which would have caused heat and stability issues.

By the way, although the motherboard displays the speed at 4300MHz, if you run CPU-Z whilst the system is under load, you will se that it actually turbos up to 4.4GHz.

Thanks, and I hope you are enjoying your new system.

    Aaron
