New 3XS System - cannot activate overclock

Just had new GTK3 system delivered. On first boot, checked Windows and saw CPU set at default 3.4. System is 3570K on Gigabyte mobo

Checked sticky thread above - entered BIOS, pressed F12 - nothing happened. Went to Save and Exit page, saw Load Profiles included Scan S tandard and Scan Overclock.

Selected overclock - reboot and still at 3.4 speed. Checked BIOS and still in the standard - no way could get the Overclock profile to load.

Must be missing something so grateful for help

Re: New 3XS System - cannot activate overclock

How are you measuring the CPU speed?

Are you going on the speed stated on the BIOS screen or within the windows information screens? If this is the case, this is normal and these tend to show the standard speed of the CPU. Mine shows my 2500K is running at 3.3 GHz on the BIOS, yet when using applications like CPU-Z it reports the correct speed of 4.6 - 5 GHz depending on the profile I load up on the system.

Please can you use CPU-Z to report the CPU's actual operating frequency.

Re: New 3XS System - cannot activate overclock

    Lee,

Thanks - I did install CPU-Z and that gave me a speed of 3.4. Noted that BIOS is running with Turbo Mode selected and that would go up to the correct overclock 0f 4.4 if the load was sufficient.

But I assumed that I could select the Scan Overclock profile - surely that is what it is there for and the thread above tells us to select it if required?

Re: New 3XS System - cannot activate overclock

    Hi

The overclock of the CPU will occur under load as it is using turbo, please run Prime95 or start a game and alt tab out to see the speed, you can also check in the bios once the profile is loaded

If you need any further help we can assist in office hours if you email us your invoice and build numbers to systemsupport@scan.co.uk

    Regards

    Ben

    Ben

    Many thanks - you got me in the right direction. Once I realised that your o'clock was in turbo mode, I could see the difference between the two profiles straight away. Guess I'm old fashioned looking for a basic "freqxmultiplier" o'clock without turbo {which was all I had ever used}

I'm running Prime now - but just for myself as I have never used it before.

    Thanks again
