    Hard drive failure

I have had a hard drive file it is showing as having one of the drives in the Raid array as failed and the array therefore degraded. Do I need to replace the hard drive(I am assuming yes) and do you still stock one that will match what I have, the model number shown is WDC WD 1002.

I think this is the drive that was replaced before where they couldn't match precisely the one installed originally

    Can you offer some advice

    Thanks in anticipation

    Re: Hard drive failure

    Hi Ben

Thanks for your advice regarding this last year I replced the hard drive and it has worked fine until tonight when one of the drives in the raid array has failed. Is there any reason why this keeps happening and what is your advice

    Thanks

    Re: Hard drive failure

    Hi Robin

This is unusual is it the drive that was replaced or one of the original ones?

    Re: Hard drive failure

    Hi Ben

Its the new hard drive that failed I think.

I got another one from Western Digital and am rebuilding the raid drive with that. However I am worried that there is some underlying problem. Do you suggest doing anything or shall I jaust wait and see if it happens again. The system worked normally up to when the drive failed.

    Thanks for your help

    Robin

    Re: Hard drive failure

    Hi Robin

Its possible its a coincidence but it may be an underlying issue maybe with the power supply, if possible try and connect the raid drives to different power connectory in case one of the cables is causing the issue

    Regards

    Ben
