    Either Ruben,

I am leaving the office now, ill check back on the thread later tonight

Water cooling might be the way to go, we can then try pushing the over clock a little further.

The Cosmos S case can accommodate a 360 Rad in the roof of the system; this will be more than enough to keep the CPU under check.

    Regards

Re: Need help with 3XS build and some questions :)

will the water cooling use the XSPC Delta V3 CPU Waterblock?

and what is the best motherboard in your opinion?

i've made another spec, how does this look to you?

Case: Coolermaster RC-1100 V2 Cosmos S (Sport) Black Silent Full Tower Case (£137.00)
    Motherboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme, Intel X58, Sok 1366, PCI-E 2.0, DDR3 1600(OC)/1800(OC), SATA I/II, ATX
    CPU: Intel i7 920, Nehalem, 2.66GHz, 4.8GT/s QPI, 8MB Cache, Retail (£207.17)
CPU Cooler: XSPC Delta V3 CPU Waterblock (£31.99)
    Memory: 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600) CAS 8 (£199.12)
    Graphics card: 1GB XFX GTX 280, 2210MHz GDDR3, 602MHz GPU, 240 Cores (Far Cry2 Included while stocks last) (£269.28)
PSU: 1000W Corsair HX Series Modular (Dual Graphics Cards SLI / Crossfire) (£159.10)
System Drives: 1000 GB Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black, 7200 rpm, 32MB Cache (£83.97)
Flash Drive: Akasa 3.5" Internal Multi Memory Card reader & USB 2.0 Port (£7.59)
    DVD Writer: LG GGC-H20L - Super Multi DVD Writer & Blu-Ray + HD-ROM Reader (£55.80)
    No Sound card
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64Bit (£76.89)

I've done some quick numbers, and it should come in just under £2000 inc VAT
(1919.07 is what i came up with modifying the 3XS Intel X58 Core i7 - Custom PC Premium Grade)

Bang on what i was hoping for

i've also done run some numbers on the 965 extreme:
(£2509.02 inc VAT modifying the 3XS Intel X58 Core i7 - Custom PC Premium Grade)

both work out at under £300 per month i have to pay back if i can get the 9 month BNPL, which i can afford.

balls in your court Philipp (spelt it right this time )

if you could be so kind to run the true numbers for the new spec and the 965 spec, i'll have an answer for you very soon

    I don't get that

£32 for the cpu block, no mention of radiators or tubing etc.. or an additional price...

    It's 4.98*

You're right, i missed out a few bits:
    XSPC Laing DDC-Pump 12V Ultra
    Alphacool Repack-Cooling Slot Black
2 x Alphacool Plugin Angle Connector
    etc

That would add around £100, so my mistake.

Think i got a little ahead of myself lol

    back to the drawing board!...

Re: Need help with 3XS build and some questions :)

OK, i've redone the maths, used the 3XS Triad "Tian Di Hui" as the water cooled base

it works out at £2170.30, for a water cooled i7 920 in the cosmos s

i think i'll be going for the 920 over the 965, got way too excited thinking about spreading the costs.

This is what i'll be looking at, the motherboard may change, but i've decided to go with air cooling, plus added the VelociRaptor with the saved money over the water cooled system

Case: Coolermaster RC-1100 V2 Cosmos S (Sport) Black Silent Full Tower Case (£137.00)
Motherboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme, Intel X58, Sok 1366 (£264.97)
    CPU: Intel i7 920, Nehalem, 2.66GHz, 4.8GT/s QPI, 8MB Cache, Retail (£207.17)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 Exclusive Dual Fan CPU Cooler (£45.39)
    Memory: 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600) CAS 8 (£199.12)
    Graphics card: 1GB XFX GTX 280, 2210MHz GDDR3, 602MHz GPU, 240 Cores (Far Cry2 Included while stocks last) (£269.28)
PSU: 1000W Corsair HX Series Modular (Dual Graphics Cards SLI / Crossfire) (£159.10)
System Drives: 300 GB Western Digital WD3000GLFS VelociRaptor, 10000 rpm, 16MB Cache (£195.22)
Storage Drives: 1000 GB Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black, 7200 rpm, 32MB Cache (£86.85)
Flash Drive: Akasa 3.5" Internal Multi Memory Card reader & USB 2.0 Port (£7.59)
    DVD Writer: LG GGC-H20L - Super Multi DVD Writer & Blu-Ray + HD-ROM Reader (£55.80)
Case Cooling Fans: 3X 120mm Coolermaster Internal Case Fan with RED LED (£14.91)
    No Sound card
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64Bit (£76.89)

    My PC £1892.29
    VAT £283.84
    Total £2176.13

This is the price with the P6T Deluxe

    My PC: £1828.71
    VAT: £274.31
    Total: £2103.02

Hopefully this makes for a better balance system

I'm thinking of getting a very similar system and I just wondered, what made you choose this CPU cooler? Would you say it is better than the Thermalright True Black 120?

    Thanks.

    @Deadalus

most cpu fans have to be adapted to fit the i7 sockets, but this is the first to be made specifically for the i7, so it should provide better cooling

the Thermalright cooler is a very good cooler and i wouldnt know for sure which one is better as personally, i havent tested them head to head.
However, it seems that the noctua one is as quiet as it can be, just by looking at the specifications. Noctua fans are known to be quiet and the ones supplied with this CPU cooler are no exception - 1300rpm. only one fan alone costs over £13: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/120mm...ntrol-Notches)

On the other hand, the upcoming thermalright cpu cooler made for socket 1366 will come supplied with a 1600rpm 120mm fan which cant be as quiet as the 1300rpm : http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Therm...nc-1600RPM-fan

Re: Need help with 3XS build and some questions :)

The thing i like about the noctua, is that it has two fans either side, so in theory should provide 2600rpm of cooling, i know it won't work like that in reality, but 2 has got to be better than 1?
Also i've notice that the notua doesn't come with the fans of the NF-P12, the ones with the blades cut into them, i found a review that they make alot of difference, along with the bearings inside the fan, so i'll see if i can buy 2 of those fans and attach it to the NF-P12 SE1366.

i think the spec is closed to being finalised, not much i would change now, just the motherboard, as i'm still flirting with the idea of the 965 extreme, just need to find better info about its cooling on air.
I've seen that temps under prime go as high as 82C, but i'm pretty certain i that no program requires that much from the cpu for that long to get it that hot.

I would also like to know if the corsair memory comes with the cooling fans aswell

weird, maybe the picture is wrong as in the product's description it says that comes with those cut-blade fans? probably Philip will check it our for you

save the money mate or get a few SSD's instead of spending on the more expensive CPU. both them CPUs will clock to the same speed as they are made from the same silicon.
I love SSDs that much that i even hacked my sony laptop (i had to take it all appart to get to where the HD is) and put an SSD inside - it boots much quicker and generally i dont experience them lags that you normally do with normal HDs

you're right about saving the money, but the velocirapter is supposed to be as faster than about 90% of SSD's.

yeah the picture looks like its got just regular fans, but Philipp will let me know i'm certain.

Re: Need help with 3XS build and some questions :)

Thanks TAKTAK, that is very useful, i'll definitely go for the Noctua, but still unsure if they come with the vortex-control notches, so i'll throw them into the system just in case.

I've had another play around, added a couple more things, and re-done my maths as i made a mistake with my base price, here goes nothing!

    Final system spec:

Case: Coolermaster RC-1100 V2 Cosmos S (Sport) Black Silent Full Tower Case (£137.00)
Motherboard: Asus Rampage II Extreme, Intel X58, Sok 1366 (£264.97)
    CPU: Intel i7 920, Nehalem, 2.66GHz, 4.8GT/s QPI, 8MB Cache, Retail (£207.17)
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 Exclusive Dual Fan CPU Cooler (£45.39)120mm Noctua
    CPU Cooler Fans: 2 x NF-P12 Vortex-Control Quiet Case Fan (£23.78)
    Oveclocking: 3XS System Core-Logic Overclocking *10 - 20%* (£80.00)
    Memory: 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair Dominator DDR3, PC3-12800 (1600) CAS 8 (£199.12)
Memory Cooling: Corsair Dominator Airflow Fan (£12.97)
    Graphics card: 1GB XFX GTX 280, 2210MHz GDDR3, 602MHz GPU, 240 Cores (Far Cry2 Included while stocks last) (£269.28)
PSU: 1000W Corsair HX Series Modular (Dual Graphics Cards SLI / Crossfire) (£159.10)
System Drives: 300 GB Western Digital WD3000GLFS VelociRaptor, 10000 rpm, 16MB Cache (£195.22)
Storage Drives: 1000 GB Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black, 7200 rpm, 32MB Cache (£86.85)
Flash Drive: Akasa 3.5" Internal Multi Memory Card reader & USB 2.0 Port (£7.59)
    DVD Writer: LG GGC-H20L - Super Multi DVD Writer & Blu-Ray + HD-ROM Reader (£55.80)
Case Cooling Fans: 3 x 120mm Coolermaster Internal Case Fan with RED LED (£14.91)
    No Sound card
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64Bit (£76.89)

    £2001.64
    £300.25 VAT
    £2301.89
    £255.77 BNPL over 9 months

If this all works out, and my maths is right and it doesn't stray too far from the original 3XS spec, i'd like to take ordering it to the next level

Its based on the 3XS Intel X58 Core i7 - Custom PC Premium Grade, (didn't subtract anything from the 3xs recommended base specification, just added and subtracted where necessary)
