Buying my first scan 3xs system, advice?

It is a bit odd especially seeing as it's a TV I only bought a year or so ago. I will have another go at it tomorrow just in case, but I am just going off the instructions for the TV.

Still seems strange...as I am sure you would lose sound if you converted DVI to HDMI...meaning you'd have to route sound from your PC to the TV (or your home cinema system).

perhaps the HDMI to HDMI didn't work because of the resolution settings already on thhe PC? I'm sure a SCAN guy can help you out on this

what is your tv's resolution?

and i know its obvious, but are you selecting the right channel?

Thanks for all the advice on the connection problem I've been having on my TV. Think I've worked out it's pretty much to do with the resolutions and refresh rates. My TV wants the PC to be set to certain ones and at the moment I can't set the PC because I can't see what I'm doing lol.

I will get it sorted out though, looks like the credit card might have to come out again for a nice new PC monitor.

Before you crack out the credit card, is there no one who can lend you their monitor? No need to spend more money when you have a TV do to things for you.

What resolution do you guys set the PC up for? 1920x1200?

Many thanks for the kind offer Philip, I don't imagine that will be necessary though really. I will get myself sorted out, just been having a look on the scan website for a new monitor, very tempted, just wish I'd thought of it at the time of the system order that way might have saved a few quid.

I've got an old monitor here on my old system but would you believe it, the connection doesn't match any on the new machine, otherwise I would have just used that!!!

Is sleepyhead right though? Will the system be auto set at 1920x1200?

I think the native resolution will be 1920x1200 once you install the VGA Drivers for your Graphics card.

there should be a dvi to vga adapter, i've got about 10 lying around, i'm sure should have one around somewhere?

that should connect to your old monitor.

by the sounds of things, your tv is 720p, you could also use s-video i think, its just hooking up the yellow cable to your tv

Thanks again for all the further advice guys, think yupyupno is probably correct, I need a DVI to VGA so I can at least plug the new machine into the old monitor.

My TV is 1080p which I bought specifically for use with my PS3. But just to quote from the TV manual "only digital output of the PC can be connected via DVI to HDMI cable, VGA not supported". I think it's the resolutions that are stopping me seeing anything on my TV because the according to the TV manual the supported PC resolutions only go up to 1024x768 - 85hz and the manual also says that before connecting the PC to the TV the PC monitor settings should be set to refresh frequency 60hz.

Don't worry though guys, I will get there in the end! I am going down the shops any minute see if the local computer shop has any DVI to VGA cables just to get me started.

Yep a DVI to VGA converter should be in with all your stuff You usually get at least 1 with any modern GFX cards.

Mark - Check all the boxes/bags that came with your PC...surely the DVI to VGA adapter is there somewhere.

Mark, check your mainboard box that will include a DVI - VGA converter, not a problem with the loan monitor the offers still there I can have it with you tomorrow morning FOC, I am leaving the office at 6.00 so just need to know before then

I've managed to find the VGA convertor in the box so it's happy days here! Can finally run my new machine on my old monitor for the time being. Just about to try and give it a shot now.

Just as well the shop I went to was out of stock of the convertors, think they wanted £8.99 for one, would have been sick if I'd have paid that and then found one in the box lol.

Hrm..seems weird your TV didn't like 1280*1024 resolution. Either that or the HDMI cable doesn't like that resolution...

Anyhow, glad things are working out and you didn't need to buy un-required items! Enjoy!
