There was one on newegg.com which had a 26in1 card reader too.

    Re: Core i7 and Linux

    Respect to DFI

    "Dear Philip:

It has taken me some time to look into this matter but it appears that the BIOS team has removed the ability to use Floppy B as of the 2009-02-06 BIOS version. BIOS versions (Beta or normal) after this time incorporating this feature as well. This can be seen in the relevent beta BIOS section for this board. The obvious question is of course why remove it, and the honest answer is I don't know. The likely answer is to make space for more vital BIOS functions. The next likely question is will it be restored in future versions? The answer being no. It was removed for a reason, and I could launch an investigation into why, but that would serve no real purpose other than to satisfy curiousity. For the time being it would appear that you would need to revert to BIOS versions prior to 2009-02-06 to be able to use Floppy B. If you do plan on reverting fully format the chip with the /f/cc switches inserted at the end of the command line at the A: prompt in DOS mode. This particular modification could be buried in the DMI area of the BIOS that often doesn't get overwritten during a standard BIOS flash."

    Re: Core i7 and Linux

    Oh, not good news.
Does this mean we can use a pre 2009-02-06 bios and it will work? Would there be any issue with doing that?

In my experience thus far I've always stuck with the bios on the board and I have never had a need to update it. So, if it is a pre 2009-02-06 I can't see (based on past experiences) why I would ever find the need to update it. I've had loads of machines over they years and not once have I had to update a motherboard bios.

I'd like to get an order placed this month...

    Re: Core i7 and Linux

    Hi Starfry,

Bad news I am afraid, doesn’t seem to be working, we have tried a number of BIOS updates prior to the date given by the DFI engineer and get the same result every time.

I will send another email off to them ASAP.

    Regards

  10. Received thanks from:

Let's see if they reply, if not then I'll abandon the idea - I'll just have to keep old hardware lying around. Shame really.

I'll give them a few days and then get on with an order anyway...
