    Please help !

Hi guys my system arrived @ about 3 ish woo nhoo !!! Its beuatiful ! great job phil it really is awsome. but theres a problem a very noisy one !! I turned the system on after unpacking and making sure no bubble wrap was left inside , On start up there is a loud clicking / ticking noise ( sounds like a label or somthing stuck in a fan and the blades are hitting it as it spins , if that makes sense ? or like putting a card in your bike spokes when your a kid that type of noise ) But it seems to be coming from the PSU ? can anyone please help many thanks Clocker

    Re: Please help !

Most likely a bit of the packaging caught up in the fan in the PSU.

I'd say open it up and see but DON'T!!!!!

    1. It will void your warrenty both with scan and the PSU manufacturer

and 2. If not done right you could kill yourself

Wait for someone from scan to come along here, can i ask what make/model the PSU is?
    Insert clever sig here...

    Clocker 1

Just tried giving you a call, is there anything caught in the grill of the PSU...

As controller has said, do not attempt to open or get into the PSU, Id rather one of our engineers get a shock

I am sorry you’re having this problem, rest assured it will be sorted without delay.

    Regards

    Re: Please help !

Ahh that’s a relief, I have logged the problem on our internal systems it was probably just something caught in the fan that’s cleared now…

Keep an eye on it and if there is any sign of it coming back we will get the system picked up and the PSU swapped out.

Glad your happy with the system Clocker bet it looks amazing on the 30inch dell

Thank you for the great feedback and your custom.

Let us know how you get on with the beast!!!

    Re: Please help !

Oh boy, I really felt for you earlier on, Clocker! I've been following your system build etc. with interest and could imagine your dismay at such an unusual noise on first starting up. I'm so glad to hear it's cleared up now, it may have been a shred of paper or something that hopefully got spat out by the fan and won't be bothering you again.

Let us know how you get on with your new toy, won't you. I'm hoping I might get a spanking new system in a few weeks time too... in the meantime I have to live vicariously through lucky so-and-so's like you, hehe!

    Re: Please help !

I would open up the case and have a good look at all the fans. Check that there is nothing that can accidently protrude into any of them. Sometimes a loose wire might 'swing' into a fan, temporarily making contact. Fire up the PC and check the fans running too. Shine a torch through the blades to check.

Also, if you have a fan on your graphics card, check that too.

    Re: Please help !

Afternoon all ! sorry i haven't replied sooner , but I only got back from the Hospital 45 min ago and I'm feeling really rough . Thank You to all of you for your replies , ideas and suggestions . They were all really helpful and greatly appreciated . The noise has definitely gone now like you guys said i think it could of been something in the fan , which has since cleared ! HOOORAAYY ! I took the side off after unpacking to check all connections and to make sure there was none come loose during transit , but all was fine and all fans working really well . I must say thanks to NightOwl for your interest etc in my system build . I hope that you found it helpful / interesting ? I hope other people can find it helpful to. If you do get a new system NightOwl your making a great decision going with Scan , They have been excellent all the way through the process and are continuing to do so after delivery . I used to be a VADIM PC customer / PC owner ( i still am a VADIM water-cooled monster system owner !! ) And i was very very sad when they had to unfortunately stop trading , i was also very concerned as where to go in future for my PC / hardware needs because Vadim are an incredible company to match, their support & service were second to none ! I was then recommended by several Vadim owners to go to Scan , and I'm so glad that i did . They are on equal par to Vadim ! They have matched Vadim's service & support on every level . Vadim were /are one of a kind , but Scan are right there next to them . I will be only coming here in future for my PC / hardware needs ! Sorry went on a rant there ! Anyway thanks for all your help guys I'm gonna go to bed shortly so speak to you all later . cheerio PS : I will post some photos of my system / setup and my whole room etc along with benchmarks later

    Re: Please help !

Hope you're feeling a bit better now, Clocker.

Yes, all this info and customer experiences/opinions is very helpful and I will definitely be placing an order very soon now. The Scan staff are great and the systems are simply too delicious to resist, hehe!

I've been thinking about a new PC for a few months now - at first I thought I would build one myself (have done it twice before) then I thought I would splash out and treat myself to something pre-built and let someone else worry about any potential construction problems etc. I looked at two or three other custom pc sites but couldn't really find the sort of configuration I really wanted, despite the usual raft of options offered at these sorts of places. I think I found Scan after reading a PC Pro review of the Core i7 system and it really is just what I was looking for - I want quality, branded components throughout, for instance, not some unspecified cheapo bits of kit (e.g. hard drives, memory etc.) bolted on in order to make the system cheaper (as some places do), so I'm very pleased to be trying Scan out. Cutting edge stuff and top quality components, with quite a few bits that can be radically changed to suit the customer's requirements if needs be - perfect!!

    Re: Please help !

I have had a very similar experience (almost there for me as my system should be with the courier todayfor delivery tomorrow).

Two years ago I bought a computer from Gladiator, they still exist but appear now to have been incorporated into something far less personal. Service then was superb and I though it would not be matched anywhere else. When I started looking this time and they were no longer an option I was a little dissapointed.

I need not have worried though. The service has been nothing short of excellent and Phil has dealt with every question and request expertly and promptly. The photo's of the system show a build quality that's nothing short of superb. This forum, combined with the photo's and the constant updates simply provides a level of service that's above and beyond anything I've encountered previously in 15 years of buying my own PC's.

    Thanks guys... Roll on tomorrow.

    Re: Please help !

I certainly hope Scan is better than Vadim as I didn't rate them that much.

I bought a system from them (over £7k's worth) and had nothing but problems. After spending more money and changing components many times over I'm left with a system which corrupts the disk and crashes frequently. I can't overclock it because it's even more unstable and when it's running on standard speed (which is the only hope of using it at all).

I'm sad Vadim went bust because I would have taken them to court over it. I'm left with a system I probably can't get rid of (who wants an unstable system). So it was a complete waste of money for me.

What I didn't like about Vadim is that they apparently let you configure systems which were incompatible. I went for a total build by them which I expected to work, not to experience continuing problems with the dual SLI and quad processors over 18 months.

Another thing I didn't like was that their testing didn't seem very thorough. Within minutes of getting the system back from them I discovered files were corrupt. I just couldn't get RAID to work without corrupting the disk.

So if anyone want wants a genuine Vadim, don't dispair I've got one going cheap!
