    Great White Question

    Hi guys,

I am looking to buying a new system and obviously the 'great white' would be the system of choice.

I haven't been keeping up to date so much with latest hardware, however I notice that the system has been recently upgraded (may 2009).

My question is, with such a price tag, and with your internal knowledge of what your bringing out. Could you tell me if there will be any big upgrades worth waiting a few months for?

I will definitely be purchasing from you guys so appreciate your honest answer! Waiting 1 month or 6 months for a big change in configuration is worth it.

Also with the release of windows 7, I wondered if that should be a factor to consider also.

P.S - Guess my brother will enjoy having my 'old' Triad system from you guys soon, the question is how long does he wait for it!

    Thanks,

    Aryan.

    Re: Great White Question

Except that once the 920 is properly withdrawn and is no longer available, then the i5 platform will probably be a better choice - assuming you can get the 920 I see no reason to hold back on a new i7 rig.

Yes, graphics cards will be updated soon, but if you're looking towards the top end of the market, then there will always be a new card "on its way" - right now there's no need to get better than a 4870 X2 in my opinion, which is only £240. If that then turned out to be insufficient, then since you'll have an i7 X58 board, you can just drop in another 4870 X2 and go quad-crossfire, so it will be easily upgradable.

If you can wait a few months there will be new cards on the market (ATI 5870/nvidia GT300) plus the SSD drives will get better and cheaper new mobo's to think of aswell,

i would wait a bit and see whats to come soon, but its up to you mate good luck.

    Yeh, that about right.

In the CPU area, i5 is coming out soon, but performance wont be good as the i7, of course. In Q4 - 2010 Q1, Intel will be releasing their 6 core die shrunken i7. But there quite a bit in the future, so it maybe worth just getting an i7 now and later on buying a 6core and dropping in the mobo later if you want the extra performance.

Unless you've ordered extreme extreme, (i.e. £10,000 worth...) there's no need to worry, i'm guessing that the projects will be super special ones to win all of the best prebuild awards.
