Smile i7 920, dds raid 0, bios version and chip questions

    Hello,
    Hopefully not a stupid questions.

Looking to get one of your i7 920 systems made up, one with the Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R board.
If I order two 80GB Intel SSD Gen 2, is it possible to get your chaps to build the system in hardware raid 0 with them? and is it worth it with that board, will I get the benafit from it?

Also what version of the boards bios are you using, I have been hearing problems about past and recent versions under windows 7. Rather worried about having to upgrade it to the latest when it arrives and loosing the overclocking settings.

Finally are the i7 920 chips used, the C0 or D0 ones? Could not tell, or see any way to choose. After a D0.

    Regards,
    Jonathan/Molando.

I have a Intel X-25M G2 80GB, and what you have to remember is that in write speeds, this drive is already bottlenecked by the SATA bus. I would assume they use D0 chips as they only sell D0 chips on their website.

    Thankyou.
After reading some of the reviews for SSD in raid zero, have been on a geek high. Have you seen the video where they link up 26 of them in one go, and start windows and open all office programs in half a second?

I was not sure if it was 300 per sata connector, or 300 in total.

    Regards,
    Jonathan/Molando

Re: i7 920, dds raid 0, bios version and chip questions

    Hello Molando,

Not stupid questions at all, If you order the SSDs with the bundle then yes we can set up the 2 in a RAID0 if you like, You should see a performance increase with 2 in a RAID as they scale very well.

My only concern would be that you lose the ability to use the TRIM command whilst they are in a RAID.

We use the 1.6 BIOS on the UD3R bundle, we haven’t had chance to test the 1.7 BIOS but we are having no problems with the 1.6,

    Ph4zed is right all D0

    Best Regards

    Thankyou,
After far too much reading, it looks like you get a big boost in Raid0 to start with, but over time it drops right the way down as it does not have Trim with raid. People are having them run at the same speed as if they were not in raid.

Think I will just go with one larger disk.

    Will place my order now.

    Regards,
    Jonathan/Molando.

My apologies with my post, I made an error. When I said write speeds, I meant the sustained read speeds.

Just a quick message to say 'Thank you'.
I am a programmer who has little knowlege of hardware, managed to cut myself the last time I removed the stand of a monitor. It is great to deal with people who know what they are talking about, and seem to really care that people get the right systems.

Three monitor zombie killing here I come

The three most dangerious things in the world:
    A programmer with a screwdriver
A hardware type with a program patch
    A user with a clue.

Re: i7 920, dds raid 0, bios version and chip questions

    It is being built today

Hopefully left on over night, and checked tomorrow. Which means it should be shipped tomorrow or Wednesday.

Should arrive Thursday or Friday, which will be just in time for a serious bit of Lan carnage that night.

First time seeing an old friend for 15 years (got to love facebook) and will get to shoot them into tiny bits. Life is good...
