Pre - Purchase Query i3 OC

Hey guys, I was looking into purchasing your i3 OC system, and I wish to use my own monitor, which only has a VGA port. I was wondering if this would be a problem, i heard the graphics card in this system was DVI and HDMI only, so is there a cable i could buy along with it to get around this?

    Thanks

    Hi Peter,

Which graphics card have you chosen? Many of the cards are provided with a DVI to VGA adaptor. If you wish to watch bluray movies though you'll need a DVI monitor, due to HDCP support.

Re: Pre - Purchase Query i3 OC

    Oh, sorry, i chose the 1GB XFX HD 5770, 850Mhz GPU, 800 SPs, 1200MHz GDDR5 card.

Also, does this card require the 650 W PSU, or is the 400W one that comes standard good enough?

    Thanks for the prompt response

The 5770's are quite green in terms of power consumption so the 400w should do fine:

The Radeon HD 5770's power consumption levels were about what we were expecting. The idle consumption was a little higher than we would have wanted, that said, with a load result of 284 watts (for the complete system) the Radeon HD 5770 uses considerably less power than the Radeon HD 4870 and GeForce GTX 260 graphics cards.

Ah ok thanks, what about the ScanFX HD4890? How does it measure up against the 5770 performance wise, and is it as good as the XFX 4890?

I'd really advise leaving the 4000 series behind now as these have been replaced by the 5000 series as I'm sure you can appreciate. You'll get more for your money in terms of feature support and a card which runs at a cooler temperature also.

5770 will be slightly behind the 4890 but you've more chances of actually acquiring a 5000 series card as the 4000's are very difficult to source.
