Question Switch overclocked i7 back to stock?

I'm looking at getting a 3XS system, an Edge with an i7-930 on a Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R. I'd not normally bother overclocking my PC, but since the option's free...

Reading some of the forum posts, it sounds like there are BIOS profiles for stock and overclocked speeds; is that the case with this configuration? I'm not a gamer, so I'd only switch over-clocking on when I'm rendering video or something, to keep the heat and power consumption down.

Which raises another point, is it safe to run it for long periods overclocked with the CPU pegged at 100%?

    Thanks.

    Alan.

In the BIOS there would be 2 profiles setup ; 1 for standard stock settings and the other for the overclocked settings. To switch between the 2 you simple load the profile you need in the BIOS and reboot.

In regards to your OC question, as long as the CPU is within the thermal limits of the hardware there shouldn't be an issue with overclocking, even with the CPU running at 100%. I've had my own CPU heavily clocked for over a year and used to leave my system on 24/7 for folding data, running as a server and encoding video and it was always running at full load withiut any issues at all.

Thanks for that, sounds ideal for me then.
